I'd suggest cutting out the sulfate shampoo and replacing it with a low poo...cj daily fix or devacurl low poo. This would also mean giving up the serum since it requires a sulfate to get out....

After he washed it did he let it dry before cutting it? Devacuts, as I'd gather you know, are always done on dry hair. It sounds like he created too many layers. This happened with my first devacut....
