Default Count me in!

All right! I've decided to join! June 2010 still gives me a lot of time to grow me so hair

This is perfect too because in August I cut off about 7 inches of relaxed hair, bringing my hair to shoulder length when curly, and about a week ago, I had my mom cut another inch off, so now my hair shrinks up quite a bit. I have about 3 inches of tightly coiled new growth (I can't wait to be all-naturale--would BC, but both me and my family need the transition), so these upcoming months may be just what I need to grow enough hair to feel comfortable enough to BC. Actually, I think I'm going to BC in June! I just decided now, but that sounds like a GREAT idea. I can only take so much of the two textures and the cut would be right in time for grad school.

Attached is a photo of my hair after the first 7 inches were cut off. It's the most recent photo I have, but my hair had shrank considerably that day so it looks pretty much like my hair does now.

I'll be checking in every once in a while

(@ suburbanbushbabe: gorgeous hair!)

Wink Sign Me Up!

I think I'll take the Challenge! lol I was giving myself until March 2010 to allow for different lengths to "catch up" with each other before a real cut.

OK, this will allow me to go until June. My goal: healthy, all natural (no relaxer anywhere) growth of 6 inches! Honestly, I'm ashamed to post my hair in it's present state, but I'm thinking how good I'll feel to have a comparison upon reaching my goals come June '10!

Default Questions about bunning

Hi ladies, I have a few questions about bunning as a protective style.
1. When bunning how often do you cowash and detangle hair in a weeks time.
2. Is it better to bun hair wet or dry, my concern is when bunning wet hair it will cause it to be weaker and break. Is there a length of time to keep hair in a bun because I find that when I take my hair down after 12 hours it is still damp. This worries me.
3. One last question after I cowash, I put leave-in condish and oil on top of my still damp hair is this too much to put up in a bun all day.
I appreciate any feedback, TIA

Smile I'm in!

I cut my hair recently, and it is going to be my last haircut for a long time. I'm trying to grow out my heat damaged hair. Yes, I was a slave to the flat iron and it completely destroyed my 3B curls. I have about 4 inches of healthy curly hair at my roots, and 7 inches of heat damaged hair toward my my ends. Now, I co-wash and only apply silicone free hair products to my hair. I'm focusing keeping my hair away from heat in all forms, and air drying my hair as much as possible. Obviously, I will diffuse my hair dry weather depending, but it's better than flat ironing my hair straight. Feel free to contact me with questions or advice. I'm so motivated to take care of my now!!

hey everyone. its been awhile for me. heres the update.

well i found myself keeping to a routine at first and then slowly dropping out of it to totally forgetting what im supposed to do (bangs head on wall). maybe i should leave notes all over the place. lol

well i love using aussie hair insurance as an everyday spray leave-in. i think i will buy boatloads of that when i get the money. i also like to use giovanni direct leave in as an additive after i wash my hair. so what i try to do is just soak my hair everyday i shower and add a little coditioner and then pat dry. afterwards add in the giovanni and re-twist my hair. giovanni keeps my hair twisted and when it drys it feels crunchy but not dry. just spray with water and its fine.

my hair used to feel dry crunchy and brittle but now its soften up. on some days i can still feel moisture. i think the most annoying thing about it is it itches alot. so when im home i spray it.

since i ran out of aussie i use the oragnic root stimulator olive oil moisturizing lotion. i use the old aussie bottle and fill it with filtered water and some of the organic. i prefer a more wet watery conditioner i can spray versus gooey. so when i itch i spray!

a few weeks back i had went out to eat. i ate a bunch of mussels and some pasta. apparently my body did not like that. i ended up spending the following day either by the toilet or in bed. i tried to take a shower and wash my hair as i had a fever but that didnt work out. when i finally felt better my hair was all matted up from the tossing and turning. so i cut out alot of my relaxed hair, as that was the part that was matting. now i have certain parts of my head that have shorter hair than the others. oh well.

thanks for reading!

I think I'll join.. I have mm.. 8 or so months?
My hair wet, is a little above shoulder length; the medium layers..
My hair dry, is a little above chin length, but 1 inch or so the longest spirals.. (I don't cut the spirals cuz they're so pretty! lols)
I don't do many protective styles anymore. I used to do a bun almost every single day when I was transitioning. Back then, I took a shower at night so my hair was pretty much dry in the morning. Then, I bunned it. Of course, I wasn't CG then, so my hair was beyond dry.
Now, I wear this half up, half down thingy out of a wash and go.

I tried address you bunning in my entry post, but I'll continue on this one. I hear you about the damage. When I was transitioning, my wavy/curly ends (the relaxed parts never stayed straight for me) were really easily damaged and broken so I adopted just showering at night so that I wouldn't risk breaking my hair by putting it in a bun.
About your hair still being wet; yes it still will be. My hair dries beyond slow, and when you bun it, you're not letting the inside be exposed to the sun/dry air thus making the dry time even slower. I wouldn't worry about it too much though.
Your last question: about leave-in and oil. It all depends really what's in your leave-in; I just leave in some of my conditioner which is really mostly oil (shea, olive, and avacado) and thickner. Because of the mostly oil factor, it wouldn't really make a difference for me to put more oil. There's really no such thing as putting "too much" in your hair unless it's overconditioned. As long as it's not overconditioned (which includes being limp, etc.), and your hair is able to absorb the moisture, you should be fine. I say this because some things for me, just sit on my hair if I put too much and/or mix it with something it doesn't like.

Note: I am not an expert and am mostly saying this out of experience. Your hair is not the same as mine was/is. I hope this helps!

I am joining this challenge also! My goals are to...
1. Maintain patience through prayer and positive affirmations.
2.Maintain moisture balance while transitioning
3. Trim 1-2 inches monthly until all relaxed ends are eliminated.
4. Protective styling
5. Journal and take pictures to chronicle progress.
6. Learn all I can about my hair likes and dislikes. Pay attention to how it reacts with different products and stick with those.

Thanks Maria for this thread.

I've been doing well with the challenge. I'm on a keep it simple plan, so I don't really do much to my hair other than cleanse, condition and moisturize. My hair has grown two inches since joining this summer which is normal for me. I exercise everyday, eat reasonably healthy, and take a multi-vitamin daily.

I hope everyone is doing well in the challenge.

Hi I havent been on in a while I have been busy working and going to school .

I hope everyone is doing great in this years challenge and other challenges on here.

My hair has grown so much especially the bald patchy spot I had. Now there is about 2 inches of hair in that area and no scalp showing in that area.

Im just keeping it simple as usual I have been doing ACV rinses every two weeks. And I deep condition with coconut oil every week. Moisturize daily as needed and oil scalp/ends daily and as needed. I have been really concentrating on my ends. I plan on doing more protien treatments and continue taking vitamins.

I wish everyone well on there hair journey /challenge.

Okay, sighn me up )

my hair type is 3b - 3a,
it just about reaches the top of my shoulders, ''just about''. , the front part of hair hair is just below my ears.. due to the costant layering and straightening i used to do. so my hair isn't all even in lengh.

i hope to reach armpit length by september 2010?? lol i'm new to hair stuff )

i'm so impatient, i need constant re-asurring i'm going to stop using heat tools, so it gives it a better chance at growing.

any hair regimes ??

Default Sengelese twists

Ok, I finally got those Sengelese Twists. I have pics of it on my Fotki account. I got them on Wednesday 11/4. I kinda don't like them, I think they are way too long, and it wasn't the style that I was looking for. I don't know how long I will keep them in, two braids in the back already slipped out , the hair on the nape of my neck is so soft it never took well to braids.

Plus the braider said I couldn't wash my hair with the type of hair that I bought! I got the 100% Toyokalen Yaki pony, is this true???? I wanted to keep these things in for at least 2months, but I doubt that i'll keep them in for a month! I just can't see not washing my hair for that long period of time.
