For my hair, it is more suited as a DT or Moisture pick me up every once in awhile. I used it for three days straight and my hair felt EXTREMELY greasy. I had to low-poo to get it out! I thought my hair was so porous that it soaked anything up, but not this stuff! I think I'll give it to my neighbors daughter, who has thick 3C bi-racial curls. It might work better for her.

My hair hated it, I hated the smell, and it was so darn hard to get out of the bottle.

Very interesting point...I have medium fine hair and it didn't do much for me. And, I have such a horrible time getting it out of the bottle! LOL. I was really disappointed it didn't work...I need a moisturizing conditioner.

Has anyone that had AOHR dry their hair out have success with a different AO conditioner (such as Island Naturals or White Camellia)?

Thanks!

I don't think it was particularly drying on my hair, it was just nothing special. I had previously tried the Island Naturals one in the hope it would help my frizz, but no - that one did dry me out, nasty stuff. The only other one I've tried is the gpb which I use about once a week and my hair responds really well to that.

Starmie:

Were you able to figure out what ingredient(s) in the Island Naturals your hair didn't like?

AOHR as a conditioner is completely "meh" for me.

But as a leave-in, it's amazing.

I am not a AOHR fan. It made my hair super frizzy, which usually isn't a big problem for me and it was not moisturizing for me at all...Giovonni products do not "wow" my hair either...

I just got this in from Drugstore.com awhile ago, and it's good in some areas and bad in others.

Good:
Good definition, my hair wasn't frizzy on the ends
Good weight/shrinkage combat, I gained maybe an inch on my dried length

Bad:
Not moisturizng, my hair felt still, and when I put in my leave in, my hair practically drank it.
The smell seems weird to me, but it fades soon after leaving the shower

Maybe it's the aloe vera in it? I'll use it for the definition and length, but only with super hydrating products, like a lot of leave in and my creamy mousse

Not Me. To me they are all gloppy and leave me a dry frizzy mess. And I HATE the scents.

I didn't like this either. There was only one AO condish that worked for me but there are cheaper things that work better.

rudeechick and curlygirlyme,

what conditioners have you two found to work well for you like AOHR does for others (as a heavy duty moisturizer)?

Thanks!

I have pretty dry hair, and this is the only conditioner I've ever used that actual made my hair feel OVERconditioned. It's too much for me. The smell is too floral for my taste.

If you can "do" glycerin, Tigi MM is awesome! The Curl Junkie rinse outs are really good, as is their Curl rehab. If you want cheap and "do" coconut, the Inecto is good. And if you want heavier, I like Kenra.

I hate the scent of Honeysuckle Rose too, and those are my favorite flowers, after sunflowers.

I long to be overconditioned

Thanks for the suggestions rudeechick. I have tried Tigi and found it too light, plus it has silk protein and I am trying to avoid protein for the moment as my hair has little to no elasticity. Coconut oil hates me so I am scared of it. I have been seriously considering the Kenra, a little worried about the protein in that though, but I was told occassional protein might be good and all I really need is to do deep treatments (so maybe not protein sensitive)
so confusing...

I might break down and get CJ rehab (shipping alone is over $20 to Canada), but desperate times! As you might be able to tell I am really struggling on the conditioner front

p.s. i think i am seriouly guanoing this thread I started over a year ago haha. whoops!

AOHR is a very oil heavy conditioner, and technically oils do not moisturize your hair. Also, oil heavy conditioners are more likely to cause problems for those with low porosity hair. There's also some debate about whether or not the wheat germ oil in AOHR is processed to remove the protein or not. Furthermore, AOHR contains jojoba oil, which is not a true oil and thus does contain protein. Coconut oil can also cause hair to retain protein, so if you are sensitive to protein, this conditioner might cause problems. Look for ones with fatty alcohols like cetearyl alcohol/stearyl alcohol/cetyl alcohol and behentrimonium methosulfate. I would recommend Jessicurl WDT and Curl Junkie Curl Rehab. They work great for me...I tried AOHR and AOWC for months hoping they would work haha, but no success for me.

I tried and disliked AOHR. This has Shea Butter in it which gives me MAJOR problems with build up.

I tried AOWC and liked it a bit better but it still did not moisturize my hair. I use it now as a pre-poo treatment.

Sorry, not a clue though just having had a quick look at the ingredients it may have been the aloe vera - it's high on the list and my hair doesn't respond too well to it in big doses.

If you really want to be overconditioned (!) have you tried the Biolage conditioning balm or a knock-off of it? Did it for me and I never thought I'd be overconditioned.
