Question I conquer my fear and did the BC today

I had been wearing braids since feb 09 and 2 weeks ago I took them out. I did not plan to go natural. I was interested in my hair texture and working curls so today, I took the plunge and went to a salon for a cut and coil. So here are the before and after pictures.

Now, what do I do? How are others styling their hair? I have type 4 hair not sure what letters. What products do you recommend? How often should I was my hair? I would love support. I'm not upset but it hasn't sunk in what I've done. My friends think its cut. What do you think?

Congratulations on your BC!
Here are a couple of threads with winter regimens. You could look at a few and see what works best for you

Question Thanks! Products? Hair salons?

Thanks for the compliments its really encouraging. My boyfriend really likes it because he say he can see my face and focuses on my eyes.

I'm thinking about getting oyin handmade products or qhemet biologics. Any preferences? The salon I went to said that I shouldn't do anything to my hair at home just keep coming to the salon. My cut and coil cost $85 that's more than I pay for relaxers. I will probably go back but I don't want to be a slave to salons like when I used relaxers. Is it better to do things at home or go to salons?

Congratulations! Your coils look beautiful. I wouldn't bother with the salons now that you are totally natural. Keep reading blogs, fotki's and the threads on this web site to learn about hair products, ingredients and styles. Many of the ladies that post here take care of their own hair without spending money in a salon and they have beautiful hair.

Visit Teri's site http://www.tightlycurly.com/welcome/ for finger coil styles and tons of information. There's also http://www.curlynikki.com/ awesome resource as well.

As for the products you mentioned, I haven't tried Oyin. Qhemet's I've tried their creams and are ok. The butters from Afroveda, however, are lovely and they work great for me. Search You Tube for product reviews, they are very helpful. Good luck and have fun experimenting with your hair.

Congrats on conquering your fear and BC-ing. I love your coils. Have fun during this period. You should try sample packs of product lines that you're interested in. That way, you'd be able to assess better what your hair needs.

A product to make tranistioning EASIER!
Scissors. Think of it like this, your mixing dirty clothes with clean clothes, you can use all the clothes detergent you want (hair product) but the dirty clothes (permed hair) will never be clean, will eventually get old, raggedy, and eventually start shredding/breaking(natural&permed hair). Don't waste your time. Transitioning for most is a fight that relaxed hair will win!
