It was me! It was me!
I cut out coconut AND protein this week, and my hair feels a little better but it's still frizzy. Mer...

Wow, you really got me thinking now....
Honestly, I held back on the coconut today, but in my heart I was sure it had been the mousse....
I had even CO washed the other day, thinking that maybe my hair was rebelling against my beloved CV Soap Bars. SO today I went back to my bars and left out the coconut, thinking it was likely the bars that contributed to the improvement....
So are we thinking too much coconut= too much protein?? Cause I have never had a problem with like this before.... The thing that SUX is I am gonna have to go BACK to the coconut to find out!
Tis a puzzlement!

Here's my two pennies worth...don't some gals use coconut oil for sealing their hair? It sounds to me like less of a protein issue and more of a coconut oil build up issue which is why your hair could be feeling dry if moisture is not able to penetrate. However, I have no idea what it would take to remove it. Hopefully a couple of cowashes or maybe a lowpoo. Okay, I'll take my pennies and leave now.
Hope you girls get it figured out soon!

Hi
Welp, i tried the AOHR, and it was fine. So my guess is that just straight coconut oil is a big NO-NO . But its weird because i had to get rid of most of my Komaza Coconut Line because my hair no-likey . The only one i held onto was the coconut lotion, so i shall see if it really bites me in the rear

That's my best guess. After all, coconut oil supposedly helps the hair retain protein.
It's possible... It hadn't occurred to me that oil can build up on the hair like that. I'll try a lowpoo. However, today I tried the Aura Cherry Almond Bark condish for the first time, as my leave-in under some FSG, so now I have to factor that in as a possibility for today's frizz. *sigh* My hair was in a very sad little nub of a ponytail today.
Thanks for the pennies

I'm pretty sure my hair likes protein but some of the Giovanni conditioners were terrible for my hair and ALL of the shampoos and gels I tried were garbage. I use the DLI like a crackhead and I use the reconstructor as a DT or a cowash. I tried Smooth as Silk and the Magnetic line but my hair was very angry with me afterward. My hair also likes Whole Foods brand conditioner but it seems more harsh for me. I get better results with Giovanni's. I have dense hair but its very fine so maybe that's why?

Wow lot's of responses! I'm glad to know i'm not the only one who has coconut oil issues! Funny thing though I do not have a problem with AOHR. My hair really likes it. Just the oil oh and coconut milk too. I can't seem to usr any products that have this as a main ingredient. I tried a sample of Curls Gel-les-c and my hair did so so with this product in terms of dryness. I used a really creamy leave in underneath. But I think I just gotta fight my curiosity with afroveda's pur whipped jelly . I just find it interesting that I have no problem with most of Aubrey organics conditioners

It's hard to isolate a single ingredient when it's combined with others. The coconut fatty acid in AOHR is not actually coconut oil. It's Fatty Alcohols combined with other ingredients for emolliency. This is from Aubreys Site:
COCONUT FATTY ACID CREAM BASE — Absorption base containing essential fatty acids, coconut fatty alcohols from palm kernels, aloe vera and vitamins A, C and E. Rich in linoleic and linolenic acids (vitamin F), excellent nutrients and skin conditioners. In hair care products, it is often combined with the important amino acids cysteine and methionine, which are high in sulfur and excellent for the hair and scalp.
I hate AOHR and my hair loves coconut in so many products that I use, even straight Coconut Oil DT's. I'm on a low protein diet for my hair because I'm coarse so the protein retention properties in coconut oil doesn't bother me.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12715094
Among three oils, coconut oil was the only oil found to reduce the protein loss remarkably for both undamaged and damaged hair when used as a pre-wash and post-wash grooming product.
Now, if you're already getting lots of protein from other sources in your "hair diet" then it's quite possible to OD on coconut containing products. You can get too much of a good thing and that's why I'm a firm believer in product rotation. Coconut oil is no different from so many other ingredients that agree with some and disagree with others. It's all about experimenting to find out what our hair likes. There's always the possibility of build up from oils as well so making sure you clarify when using Oils in your hair care is important too.

Something else to consider could be the acid content of Coconut oil perhaps??? Also, because coconut oil tends to be absorbed as opposed to laying on top of the hair it can cause issues for some??
http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlre...ls-and-butters
Generally, molecules with a straight chain geometry (saturated fatty acids), such as stearic acid, lauric acid, and palmitic acid can easily fit through the pores of the cuticle layer and slither through the CMC and into the interior of the cortex.
However, polyunsaturated fatty acids seem unable to penetrate into the interior of the hair at all, and remain either adsorbed onto the exterior surface of the hair or may get wedged into the cuticle layer.

Del, thank you for your coconut wisdom.
I'm a fan of simplicity and sticking with just a few products, but in this case I'll definitely have to start rotating.

I strive for simplicity too believe it or not. I like to have 3 go to combos but can't help from experimenting also!!

I JUST received my PWG in the mail. No dryness issues at all. I thought it may weigh my hair down but it hasn't done that either. Its still early, but I suspect this one's a keeper

My hair also hates AOHR and I think it is because of the coconut fatty acid.My hair also hates coconut oil by itself.

I def will. As of today, I think I may keep it, but I may still be on the look out for something a little better b/c of the hardness. I'm not one for butters (they sit on my hair) but I tried it tonight with a small amount of shea butter so we'll see. I'll keep u posted!

Last weekend I added coconut oil to my dry hair and by the end of the week the ends of my hair was sooo crunchy. CRUNCHY! I'm mad about it! :P
I'm still learning, but I've realized that FOR ME, I need something thicker than coconut oil for moisture, and I've also learned not to add coconut oil to my dry hair because it does NOTHING but sit there. I'll probably only be using it in addition to something, as opposed to on it's own, and on wet/damp hair only. Like this week I added it to my AOHSR DC and it was fine. Coconut oil is all good when it comes to DC (although next time I'll try olive oil with the AOHSR instead), but I've realized my hair prefers moisturizing products with olive oil bases like the Qhemet line as opposed to products with coconut oil or shea butter bases. Coconut oil really hasn't done much for my hair as far as I can tell, and that crunchy dry hair I had before I washed it on Friday night was a wake up call. Won't be buying any more coconut oil. Olive oil only for now. I'm also thinking about giving castor oil a go.
I also picked up the PWG but haven't tried it yet... How are you using it?

Idk if this was to me but if not, pls excuse me lol.
I'm using it as styler over GDLI and Darcy's Curl Detangling Milk. It has a lot of crunch but I put it on at night so in the morning its usually soft unless I use a lot to begin with....jury's still out on whether or not I will keep it. I'm still playing with it. Having sort of mixed results...
