Default The "Scrunch-n-Pump" = Clumps

So, I don't know if I invented a new technique or what, but I figured out a way to achieve clumps for myself - and they're good ones, too!

I did my normal routine with No Poo and OneC, which I don't rinse out all the way, so it makes that squinchy sound when I scrunch and it's still dripping and I add Angell.

But here's what I do. I coat my hands with the gel and then scrunch, but each palmful of hair that I cup, I squeeze and pump eight times for each section.

As long as I can hear that sound and it feels squishy when I pump my hand open and closed, I know it's working.

When I take my hand away, I'm left with a really soft-looking clump!

I did this all over my head to apply the gel and diffused and got gorgeous clumps!

I really find that the pumping helps distribute the product really, really well-especially for my super-dense hair.

Does anyone else do this??

Not it, but I will certainly try! Hey, I'll give anything a try once, especially if it'll give me good clumps! I love that I'm not the only one to use the word squinchy! Love it!

Well, that certainly sounds worth a try! For myself, I have found that scrunching multiple times does encourage curl, but also holding each scrunch for an additional second or two helps, too. It's like the curls need to be "started" or something. Weird.

I have not tried that method (but I will) but I do what jillipoo does - I hold them for a bit when they are scrunched in my hands.

I've never really held the scrunch in place for any length of time because I think the plopping basically does that for me, but I do scrunch my product in for a pretty long time while upside down -- long enough that my back starts screaming at me to stand up!! It does help with distribution and getting the curls going.

I pump it a few times, but not 8 times. Interesting.

Tried the scrunch and pump technique this morning and I got some pretty nice clumps! Thanks for mentioning this CSteen85!

i like it! i do have better clumps today, but that could be from not using anything under the gel. usually i'll use some re:coil or IQCCC or a combination, and work it through my hair before using gel. Since i just left some OneC in after my shower i skipped that step. But i think doing this does encourage curl for me!!

Thanks for sharing!!

P.S. this made me fall in love with AnGell all over again!

That's the technique I've been using for the last several months, except I only open and close hands (pump) twice. I get the best clumps this way, and this is when Angell started working for me for the first time. After I do this I use my Curl-ease towel to accordion the clumps of curls up and press against my scalp to remove excess water and set curls (I can't plop, curls get weird). I get consistent results this way.

I have actually started doing something very similar to my hair while diffusing. As I hold the DevaFuser in place (do this in each section) I 'scrunch-n-pump' the hair that is getting diffused. For the majority of the time though I scrunch up all of the hair and hold it. I'm getting much more curls since I started doing this a couple weeks ago, but I do seem to have lost a little volume from it.

I do what Brooke does when I hair-dry, and I'm eager to try out that pump thing. It's pathertic when I look forward to a new day because I can try out more styling products.

Default Yay!

I'm so excited that you all are excited about this!

I'm telling you... I tried it again this morning and I got great, clumpy curls.

I don't know how this would work with a cream as I haven't tried it yet, but I might try it with MOP C tonight.

I know eight pumps sounds a bit excessive, but for some reason, it really distributes the product and sort of "sets" the curl.

I'm sure if you did it less than eight times, like six or so, you would still get the same result, but I find it makes me spend a little more time on each section.

Keep in mind, my hair always has conditioner left in it and its still pretty wet when I get to this step.

Can't wait for everyone else to post their results! If they're good, maybe I"ll patent the "Scrunch-n-Pump"!

J/k
