i have 0 tattoos and i plan to keep it like that! i'm very picky and have a hard time with commitment. there is no way I can commit to a tattoo! me and bff got henna tattoos and the moment we walked out of the spot, we were like, OH NO how long does it take to come off!?!? lol. but mostly everyone at this point has a tattoo, so it's whatever to me. dont like, dont hate them. but i love to come across a person that doesnt have a tattoo! it's like, wow, you dont have a tattoo either?! cool!! lol.

I have 4 tattoos. I LOVE them. I got my first one at age 42. Must be my mid life crisis. (I am 44). I want more just do not know what I want yet.

As you can see by my avatar, I like tropical flowers. They remind me of Hawaii (my favorite place on earth). I have a "tramp stamp" of hibiscus and plumaria flowers. I have a hibscus floating in water on the top of my foot. I have a lone hibscus between my shoulder blades and my most recent tatt is HUGE. It is a scroll design that covers both shoulder blades and goes up my neck.

I don't like tattoos. I think most of them look trashy.

I've got a few. I just got one on my back (upper) and I have three across my lower back. No one really sees them, and I never have to worry about them showing in formal dresses because I got them so that they could be discreet when needed.
I want one more. It will be big but also discreet (if that is even possible). I rarely (hehe... rarely.... I DON'T) date, so honestly, I really am the only one who seems then on a daily.
ETA: Ok. the one on my upper back will show if I have a tank top on and my hair is up. But I don't wear my hair up now that I have better curls and I NEVER wear my hair up if I am dressing up.

I have one. Love it. They are kind of addicting. I had to be firm with myself and only get one.
I think some look a bit tacky, some look beautiful. Like works of art. I had a friend who had a sleeve (from shoulder to elbow) It had a stained glass effect.
If a person has a lot of tats, I think I prefer the mural look as opposed to the random placements.

I have one very large tattoo -- it takes up about 80% of my back. It's a koi swimming upwards surrounded by cherry blossoms and peonies. I plan on having both of my thighs done as well but haven't settled on a design yet. I've been referring to those as my racing stripes to make me look like I'm moving faster. =)
I love well done tattoos. I appreciate body modification in general, so this is just a piece of that. I like the idea that you are not your body as it is and can modify your body in a way to make you happier. I don't think it's something you should take lightly as it's a permanent modification (this is particularly in the case of tattoos, scarification and other more hard core mods, but some piercings do apply here as well when stretched). However, I don't think all body mods have to be serious, either. I appreciate a sense of humor in tattoos.
Anyway, this is my back, fresh and a little bloody. It's been a couple of years now since completion, but I'm probably adding another koi below this one, perhaps swimming downward depending where I am in in my life, and some more flowers.

HOLY F****** S*** THAT IS BEAUTIFUL!
I love koi carps, they are just stunning and that artwork is lovely.
I don't think you can say 'tattoos are tacky'
My first tattoo symbolised me trying to recover from anorexia nervosa and bulimia - is THAT tacky??????

Ella.... I also don't like tattoos and I think they are unattractive and also too conventional these days - it seems like almost everyone under 40 and a lot of people over 40 has one. I don't know if tacky is the word, but I don't like them at all.
I don't think there's anything wrong with commemorating your recovery from an illness, (congratulations on your recovery, BTW) but there are other ways than a tattoo (jewellry, clothing, a trip, a photography session.....) The motivation behind why people get their tattoos may be beautiful but the actual act of having something drawn on your skin is something I don't like to look at (like some people get them for having a child - having a child is a great thing but putting Chinese characters on your arm because you had one is silly to me.)
I think you can express yourself inwardly just as much as you can outwardly, too.
I also think as people get older those tattoos are going to look ridiculous or not suit their life or how they see themselves or want to be seen. And now you're stuck with something that always has to be accounted for when you get dressed or go places. It's just too permanent for me.
But if you like your tattoos, who cares if everyone else doesn't like them or thinks they are a bad idea?

Exactly - I agree. I don't really care what people think about my tattoos. My body, my rules.
The reason why I got the tattoo about the anorexia was because it is something that will always be there - it will never go away completely - just like a tattoo. It is also on my stomach, which was also symbolic - surrounded by butterflies (you know butterflies in your stomach? - that's what it felt like to starve) So really, whenever I look at that tattoo, I kinda feel proud of myself and it sometimes discourages me from slipping back into old habits.

Thanks. =)
I love it. I smile whenever I see it in the mirror or in a photograph. I'm sure you feel the same way about your butterflies as I feel about my koi. I'd love to see them sometime.

I have one and want more, but I'm so picky about what I want. I have a few ideas though.
Its funny, but with my style, I think I look sort of weird NOT having more tats.

I really like tattoos on some people. On others, and depending what it is, I think it looks tacky. My friend has a tattoo of a brain cell affected by cancer, which her sister passed away from, and I know someone who has a MASSIVE tramp stamp of tinkerbell.
It just depends. I think it suits some but looks out of place on others. That Koi tattoo is beautiful though!

I don't think that tattoos are trashy. I think that trashy people are trashy.
I have thought about it, but the place where I want to get it on my body is not allowed by the military (inside of my wrist). So it will have to wait, but by the time I can retire I might have changed my mind...

ITA w/ that. I think trashy people with tattoos are trashy. I just don't get how anybody can call a piece of art trashy!
