L’Oréal guilty of racial discrimination
L’Oréal, the French cosmetics giant, whose advertising campaigns proclaim “because you’re worth it”, was found guilty of racial discrimination for considering black, Arab and Asian women unworthy of selling its shampoo.
BTW Mizani is a division of L’Oréal!

For those who plan to boycott L'Oreal, here is everything they own. I boycott all these companies now. For this, for lightening Beyonce's skin and telling her she can't remove her weave, for using their Soft-sheen Carson products (marketed towards Black hair) and having them cuase the skin on my face and scalp turn red, burn and itch. And the cherry on top is all the racist and severely anti-curl and kink commercials their Garnier division puts out.
L'Oréal Professionnel
L'Oréal Technique
Kérastase
Redken
Matrix
Mizani
Shu Uemura Art of Hair
L'Oréal Paris
Garnier
Maybelline New York
SoftSheen-Carson
CCB Paris
Lancôme
Biotherm
Kiehl's
Helena Rubinstein
Shu Uemura
YSL Beauté
Giorgio Armani Parfums and Cosmetics
Cacharel cosmetics
Ralph Lauren Fragrances
Diesel Fragrances
Paloma Picasso fragrances
Victor & Rolf parfums
Vichy Laboratoires
La Roche-Posay
SkinCeuticals
Innéov
Sanoflore
Ombrelle
The Body Shop
Remember change won't come until we start speaking with our wallets. And if you used any of these products regularly before and won't know make sure to let L'Oreal know why.

Thanks for posting...yet another reason I either make everything I use or buy it from small home-based businesses where I can find out a lot about the people making the product.
I wish I used something of theirs so that I could boycott them but I will at least pass this to everyone I know.
Let's really learn from all the great change movements - it's the dollar (or the franc!) that really makes people pay attention!

Thanks for posting that! I knew L'Oreal owned a TON of brand names, but I didn't know how many. Shame on them!
It saddens me to know that such a large corporation would use it's money and power to fuel racism, instead of combating it.
I, too refuse to buy any L'Oreal products. Money is the only thing they understand.

I don't use any of those companies' products, but it was just happenstance. Now I won't on principle.
Agree with the other poster that it pays to buy from smaller companies, especially women- and minority-owned ones. I do it because they know their stuff and produce better products, but there are some other nice side benefits, like avoiding this kind of B.S.

That's a shame. But damn... I love their conditioner it helps my hair grow! And I use their cream and serum... guess I'll have to find a different brand. I wont love their products, if they don't love me

Thank goodness I recently got rid of all those products! None of them really worked for me anyway (except Redken All Soft, but that's not CG anyhow, and it was pretty drying). I can't stand it when I hear stories like this - I mean, seriously, they brought the uproar upon themselves. That's absolutely horrible.

I'm 100% done with them. I just read an article, and the company is in denial:
L'Oréal owns brands ranging from Lancôme to the Body Shop, which it bought last year. It said yesterday it would immediately appeal against the decision, which it found "incomprehensible".
"We believe that diversity and difference are a source of richness and we do not tolerate any form of racism or discrimination," the statement said.
I can't buy from a company that doesn't think that what happened was discrimination. I have bought stuff from nearly all of the brands KinkyKeeper listed at some point or another, but I won't again, no matter how much I love Maybelline lol.
When they issue an apology, and come up with some program to combat racist hiring practices in their company, then I might consider buying their products again.

Well darn.. L'Oreal owns up every dang thing... well for those of you boycotting... here's another reason to do so if you don't like animal testing: They test on animals.. YEP.
Check this out:
L'Oréal still tests new ingredients on animals, which has led to criticism from Naturewatch Compassionate Shopping. [3] Following L'Oréal's purchase of The Body Shop, who previously were against animal testing, The Body Shop founder Dame Anita Roddick was forced to defend herself against allegations of abandoning her principles over L'Oréal's track record on animal testing. She declared, that her belief in the power of cosmetics to enhance female beauty was greater than any concern over animal testing. As a result, calls were made for shoppers to boycott The Body Shop. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loreal#...and_litigation)
LO'real HiP is selling like hot cakes too these days... now with that they have a black woman as the spokes person.. Kerry Washington.. interesting. Given, I know the lawsuit was about them finding black, Arab, and Asian women unworthy of selling their shampoo.
But this doesn't surpise me.. I bet A LOT of companies that sell shampoo have that quite as kept policy for not featuring non-white women in their commercials. I think people would be SUPRISED what policies certain companies have against featuring certain people in their commercials..because in their minds the bottom line is the captial and they want to reach a certain demographic that they think will help them keep that bottom line rising.
I mean I've often wondered why McDonald's commercials often feature a lot of black people... I've wondered is there something BEHIND that...

Man, whoever does L'Oreal's Public Relations is incredibly incompetent. I've taken PR classes, one of the first rules is apologize, denial of an action only turns public opinion even further against you. But the instant you apologize and own up to your mistake, a lot of customers would forgive a company.
I don't want to hear denial, the evidence is right in front of me. It makes me think they think we are stupid or something. But hey just one more reason to boycott them, they're liars and they think their customers are morons. They also denied lightening Beyonce's skin for an ad (and looking the pictures it looks like they made her nose different as well). She actually looks kinda fugly (and not at all like herself) in the second picture, so they're computer touch up department sucks too for actually managing to make Beyonce look unpretty.
Speaking as someone around Beyonce's natural skin tone, skin of color does have a tendency to look lighter or darker depending on the lighting. My skin is a chameleon but the second pic? Never that light (unless I was in bright flash and outdoors).

Wow, this is disgusting! I had noticed that L'oreal had been using a more diverse range of ethnicities in their advertising in the last couple of years, but after reading that article which states:
'L’Oréal expressed “disappointment” at the judgment, which ends three years of legal wrangling over the discrimination claims.'
I wouldn't be surprised if this recent shift in advertising was an attempt to backpedal and protect their public image...like 'no we're not racist, look at all the asian/latina/african women we use in our advertising'.
Time to boycott!

This makes me so mad. You know what else is scary, why does one company "own" all these other companies?
Man I loved my HIP stuff too. I wonder who owns MAC ? Gotta go look that up.
I've been wanting to switch to more natural stuff, I just have ingredient sensitivities to a bunch of natural ingredients. Frustrating. Been doing a lot of research and I think I'm just going to start making my own stuff. That will roll right along with my commitment to eating less processed food. And locally grown stuff.
Okay, gonna remind myself I can only do this one thing at a time and not to get overwhelmed. haha.

Wow. I am glad I don't use any of those products.
I didn't know they own Ralph Lauren Fragrances. Not like I used/use it or anything.

The Body Shops body butters are the best for my dry skin. That's the only thing I have been used for skin in the winter. Guess I will have to start making my own.

I seriously almost cried when I saw the before and after photos of Beyonce... she looks sickly now. Hopefully she can stop the lightening before she becomes the next Michael Jackson (referring toe the skin... not the children thing...)
Also... damn I love the smell of Garnier... Oh well, I still got Aussie and Dove.
