Taliah Waajid Crinkles and Curls
Hi all,
I was reading through some threads trying to find any suggestions for a close second to Kinky Curly Curling Custard (I just don't want to pay that much for it). I think it was in the 4's board that I found a suggestion to use Taliah Waajid's Crinkles and Curls. The poster said she had the same results for much less money.
I remembered visiting my local beauty supply store and the owner raving about this product line for anyone with natural hair. The products claim to be all-natural. So I went back to that same store and found only 1 Crinkles and Curls lotion on the shelf. I figured this was either a sign that it's a popular product and I'm getting the last one or they don't get as much in. But for $7.99 I figured it's worth a try.
Well I got home and couldn't wait to try it since it says it holds curls twice as long without flaking or hardening, adds moisture and sheen with no buildup and cuts down on drying time. This is also used for locks and wet or dry sets.
I co-washed with my VO5 moisturizing conditioner, blotted excess water with flour sack towel, applied GVP conditioning balm as a leave in, then sectioned my hair in 4 and raked a pump or two of the Crinkles and Curls styling lotion to each section. I then plopped for about 20 minutes with a flour sack towel.
After plopping I noticed my curls were slightly bigger (which I like) but there wasn't a lot of clumpage (a word?). After about another hour my hair was mostly dry, except the very top was damp. There was very very little crunch, but I SOTC all around and was very pleased at the results. My curls are bigger, bouncy, very soft and not hard anywhere which is a big plus! I wish I could add pics but I can never seem to do that on here.
The only con to this is that my hair isn't as shiny as I'd prefer but that could be because of the fact that I didn't do a rinse out with my GVP CB like I usually do, and/or I rinsed with warm water.
I will try this again tomorrow morning, using my usual routine which will be rinse-out, leave-in, and then apply Crinkles and Curls and see if there is a difference in the shine factor.
The ingredients in this seem simple and nice: Distilled water, silk protein, copolymer, DM Hydontain Aloe Extract, Ground Indian Hemp, Wheat germ, apple cove extract, herbal fragrance, MEA.
So I guess if your hair doesn't like protein this would not be for you. But mine does
Has anyone else ever heard of or tried this product/line of products?

I was obsessed with trying those products but had to order them online. I bought the crinkles and curls, the regular gel plus the extra hold one, the conditioner and bodifier.
The bodifier leaves my hair sooo soft, I was using it on dry hair to retwist at night when my hair was getting special.
The crinkles and curls wasn't bad, though I highly doubt I could use it as a standalone styler on my hair. Didn't try the gels or conditioner yet. I loooove that bodifier spray though, the smell is so yummy too! Some were adding water to the bottle to stretch it out but you can cause mold that way so I don't.

I saw that bodifier spray and the gels. I was tempted to get the regular gel but figured I'd do one thing at a time. I rubbed a bit of the regular gel on the back of my hand and it felt soft, not sticky so that's good. I'd be interested to know how you like it.
I keep seeing comments on how great Curl Junkie is...I must check it out!

Amazing
Not only does she do youtube reviews but she does amazing youtube reviews! My kids laugh at me since I tell them I'm watching the Empressri show
I've never been steered wrong on a product and I always watch 2x at least--and I am able to figure out which products will work for my daughter and I to order.
And I was J.K. Empressri on the waiting on the review. You know I want to see it! Plus I checked out those Taliah Waajid products and they get universal great reviews AND they are very inexpensive! It looks like the shampoo's all have sulfates but some are way down on the ingredient list. I think her products don't contain cones though from what I've been able to gather. They look great! I did check out some youtube reviews and one lady's husband even came on the review (he was loc'd) and said he loved the products. IMHO if you can get hubby on board with getting on youtube to do a HAIR PRODUCT review these must be some seriously good products!

I checked that out. I'm going to see if my ex is interested. We've been trying to get him to grow his hair a bit. He's been shaving it since I met him and before that. I think the longest it's been is maybe 1/2 inch or so. It looks similar to your honey's but he doesn't get the curls--his are more like a Z shape but real tight. When he was younger (from pictures) they seem more coily but he's been shaving it since he was about 15 or so and he's 43.
My daughter's been telling him to grow it and condition it. He says it just breaks off and gets frizzy. He loves good scents though so if this stuff smells great (which seems like it does) he might be willing to try it!

They look really nice.

I also had a very hard time finding the ingredients for these products online. Even the brand website. That's why I just went down to my closest BS store because I knew it was sold there. From what I remember reading on the labels, the shampoos do have SLS but I didn't see any silicones in the conditioners or alcohol. Not sure about castor oil though .

Youtube reviews
I've been watching the youtube reviews. One lady went through the enhancing herbal conditioner ingredients and all sound fine but it does have beeswax in it. I did not hear any castor oil but it did have other oils. Nothing in there that I could hear that would send any red flag's.
For me beeswax is o.k. since the soap bars and/or my low poo will get it out as long as I don't use it daily.
I'll let you know if I find more ingredients. I tried to find the products locally but they were only available in LA that I could find.

I had used some of these products a year ago. The Crinkles & Curls was okay, but nothing special for my hair, but it did work really well on my daughter's hair (2a-b). It gave her some really nice waves. I prefer curl creams and gel for my hair. The Crinkles & Curls is like a foam soap; I found it really light.
I should give it another try now that my hair is in better condition ..... it's still sitting at the back of my cupboard !!

Didn't know if I should start a separate Taliah Waajid thread?
I got my Taliah Waajid products yesterday. Used them this morning. All I can say is WOW!! It was a soap bar day. Used the Enhancing Herbal Conditioner as my rinse out, the Protective Mist Bodifier as LI, FSG as my curl enhancer and the Lock It Tight as my gel--it's raining again today! Hair looks incredible--no frizz, yet. Was going to use the Crinkles and Curls but wasn't sure if that's a gel, curl enhancer or mousse???? These products are really nice and reasonable on top of that. I also got the regular Lock It Up and The Strengthener. Yesterday afternoon, I used the Protective Mist to smooth some surface frizz--thought it worked well for that. It would also be good for people trying to achieve 2nd day hair.
BTW. It's raining, dewpoint is only 53, but humidity is 89%!

Wow Kathymack! I'm glad you're having great results so far! I have only tried the Crinkes & Curls but was very tempted to get more the other day. Crinkles and Curls is like a foam soap like mouse I guess. It's not thick at all and doesn't have a strong hold but it makes my hair really soft and I think it enhances the curls also. But when I use it, I find that I have to scrunch in some gel or mousse on the ends. I've had great results with it on rainy days as well.
I was really tempted to get that Lock it up gel but I keep telling the PJ on my shoulder that I need to use up or give away the gels I already have before I buy more!
Does anyone else kinda hide some of the many hair products from your hubby or significant other? Or am I the only one?! LOL
