Just need to vent! pics included
I'm sorry for this, but I need to get something out of my system. I'm soooo frustrated. Thanks for indulging me.
Okay, so for the last few years I've been growing my hair out long. I'm 30 years old, have never really had hair past my shoulders until recently and thought I would see what it's like. I've usually had a chin length bob which I like, but my husband likes long hair so I decided to give it a go.
I had a baby last fall, and I also have a four year old. I'm a SAHM but quite busy. My baby is also a mega-grabber, if you know what I mean. Rips out my earrings, claws my face if she's super upset and loves to pull my hair out...literally rips it out!
So anyhoo, after having my hair shoulder blade length, but never getting to wear it down because of the kids and the hassle, etc, I've decided to cut it. I've debated off an on but recently experienced another bout of baby-grabbies and just said I'm done!!! What's the point of having long hair that I just end up throwing in a mom-wad ponytail thingy since I can't wear it down? Then it gets full of tangles and I spend ages in the shower trying to detangle, only to have a handful of hair combed out every time. It's just more hassle than it's worth, at least for the time being.
I found this pic of a hairstyle I just love (on Elisabeth Shue), and I've had something similar many years ago. I remember how it brought out my eyes and cheekbones and how happy I was with it.
I showed it to some friends (curlies) and they loved it. So supportive and encouraging. I showed it to some family members and all they could say was:
"She looks like she needs to comb her hair". (From a curly who straightens and has very boring old lady hair.)
"Wow, that's SHORT! I prefer long hair." (From a woman who has short hair that is permed and colored purple/red and who's hair is FRIED. I mean, all dull split ends. And then she uses a curling iron and pick to fluff it out and sprays into a helmet.)
Both of these people were some that I thought would be the most supportive. They did eventually say they thought I could pull it off, but it just made me mad that when they both fight their natural hair type and do horrible things to their hair, their first response has to be negative. It hurt my feelings.

Well since their hair sounds HORRIBLE I don't think they would be the ones to take seriously.
I love it, and I think it's sexy and fun!
I say rock it!

You know, every time I cut my hair my mother in law is supportive (I love that woman, she's the sweetest thing ever), but there is always a comment on the end, "so when you grow your hair out later". For her, women should have hair at least down to their shoulders. Or well, women don't have to, but its much more flattering if its longer.
Its just what they like. You don't have to have the same opinion as them. You have to look at how they wear their hair, and if you don't like it, then their opinion on hair is obviously something you don't want to trust. Now you can love them and trust their opinion on other things, but obviously hair is not their thing heh.
I think that haircut is AWESOME, and if you decide to get it cut that way, I wanna see pictures!

If you've had a similar cut before and liked it, dig out some old pictures to refresh your memory. Think if you've gained or lost weight, and if it still flatters your face. To me, it looks fun and pretty easy to take care of. If you like it, go for it.
Your family members do not have the same taste you do.
So, to each his own.

I know you guys are totally right. And I hate that I let this bother me. I adore these relatives, and maybe that's why I was a bit startled by their comments, which really weren't that bad. They are just normally very enthusiastic. I think I probably just need to grow up, eh!?!
Anyhoo, my appt. is on Monday and I will most definitely post pictures then. I'm so excited to get this done....like a fresh start for me after an extremely difficult year. I had post-partum depression after my baby was born and this has been a year of healing. I'm ready to cut off all this "old" and start out new!
Thanks for the advice and encouragement. In hindsight their comments weren't so terrible, I was just sensitive. Hair is a sensitive subject, no?
I've decided to just consider myself the brave one and go for it! Perhaps they'll see there's more than one way to be right.
Happy Halloween everyone!

I LOVE that haircut! It's the kind of cut I wish I could pull off. I love short hair, but my hair won't cooperate at that length dang it!
If you get it cut please post pix!

I plan to post pics, for sure! I'm just so excited I can hardly stand it. I guess I'm a short-hair girl at heart and this has been a long time coming. It's all I can do to not go out a buy my own scissors and do it myself.....my best friend/stylist would KILL me!
Incidently, I can't say how happy I am to have a stylist who has curly hair herself and knows how to take care of it and show off her curls. That's one of the main reasons I chose her. She doesn't do CG and she straightens some of the time but her hair is still always is fantastic condition and looks lovely straight or curly.
Anyhoo, thanks again for the encouragement ladies. You've made my day!

Good, and I know how you feel those closest to us opinions matter most and we're more sensitive to them. I'm glad you're feeling better about it. I look forward to seeing pics because I've been wanting a similar cut myself.

i rarely ask for advice or opinions from people who obviously have no clue about style, lol. that would include basically ALL of my family. i'd rather have input from people who know what they're talking about.
that cut is gorgeous and i'm sure it will look great on you. i'm jealous--my ears stick out and i have too much hair to EVER be able to pull of a short 'do. so ENJOY IT.

I know how you're feeling Hunny, I can definitely understand wanting the people close to you to love something as much as you do. But I agree 100% with what Goober said; hair maybe isn't their forte, hm? It's just like how I immediately distrust a stylist with hair I wouldn't wish on anyone (they color it odd, don't take care of it, ridiculous cut, etc.).
And she's doesn't need to comb her hair. It's WAVY not TANGLED.

it looks amazing and sooooo much better than when it was longer. It looks a lot curlier short.

I agree with wavywonder. I like it MUCH better short. VERY flattering on your face, agreed it brings out your eyes and your smile.
I feel the same way..mine was long and I threw it back all the time too. I hated it (but hubby liked long hair)..when I got divorced I chopped it off ( )
LOVE the cut--looks fabulous and flattering on you. Excellent choice!
