Default Help with my hair steamer please

I just received today and I'm excited to use! I have a few questions as the instructions or lack thereof suck.

How long should i let it heat up?

Should steam be shooting out or coming out slowly ( i have both buttons pressed down for 620w)

The vent on the front of the hood should it be open or closed. I assume close keeps more steam in which would be better?

Do i have to use distilled water? The instructions do not say?

I have the model most of you have

The steam on mine comes out slowly does not shoot out. I also don't really let my steamer heat up I just go ahead and sit under it once the steam starts to come out.

I closed the vent on the front of the hood the second time I used it to keep the steam inside. I have used distilled water with mine. On the other thread someone mentioned something about bacteria building up if you used tap or spring water.

i steam for at least 30 minutes and up to 1.5 hours...with no plastic cap.

i use the red button...i think. you can press both buttons, but i think the steam is strongest with the red button. the yellow button's steam is light and airy...almost nonexistent...at least on mine.

i use distilled water. i recently bought several gallons because it was on sale...a gallon will last me for at 8 steams.

regarding the waste water bottle, reuse that water!

happy steaming!

that is the best advice ever. I would have never thought to reuse the waste water.

i pressed both buttons down on the steamer I don't know if that gives you more steam than just the red button itself but I think it does. I have to try the red button alone next time.

I use a water filter, does that mean it will have bacteria? I haven't bought any distilled water.

I don't think it has anything to do with bacteria, but for mineral deposits and such that could clog you steamer. Just think of it like an iron; usually when you but a good iron it'll tell you to use distilled water for that same reason.

Now in regards to reusing waste water, I've looked at that water and I think there may be conditioner particles or some little micros floating around in there. Just my opinion!

my waste water is clear...interesting...

has anyone's steamer started making a noise? sort of similar to water boiling with air...yes, i know water is boiling, but it didn't use to make this noise...but now it starts making it after about 10 minutes of steaming.

i drained the tank and refilled it water...seems to have solved the air boiling noise...i wonder if i had too much water in the tank? from now on, i will make sure to refill only when the water is gone from the container.

my waste water was cloudy with small particles but then again i did not use distilled water. i will use distilled from now on.

my steamer is new and has been making that noise you describe.

when you say drain your only referring to taking the jug out and emptying it right?

i wonder if i use the filtered water from my fridge if that would be the equivalent of using distilled water

no; i removed the top water container, then removed the little black cap to drain the water into a bowl.

i then refilled the water container with water, inserted and turned off...no more air boiling sound.

if i recall correctly, mine didn't start making that noise until i refilled the water container before it was completely used.

Windflower-
I've read and reread your post (early morning brain fart) and from what I can tell is that when you refilled your tank it may have had a trapped air bubble inside, hence the noise.

Alsaxon-
I'm wondering about that too.... I'ma have to google it or contact the salonsrus to see what they'd recommend, b/c if I can you my pur water filter in my kitchen or my filtered shower head would be great!

elegantrose,

thanks! that makes a lot of sense because it stops once i drain the water...

i recall the instructions stating that no bubbles should rise once the water tank is inserted, but no matter how i screw on the black cap, i seem to get bubbles...

I don't know what I'd do without you ladies lol. I just looked inside my steamer and there are chalk white mineral deposits in there even though I used filtered water. So elegantrose you were right! I just went out and brought 3 jugs of distilled water and I will only use distilled water from now on.

make sure the rubber ring is at the bottom of the cap. you shouldn't be getting any bubbles rising, BUT when the water is draining to get boiled I get one giant bubble. This is normal, but if you are getting many bubbles rising, your cap is not on tightly enough or is missing the rubber ring.

yes. use distilled water. it has no minerals in it to cause any buildup. PLUS it's great for your hair
