Infused oils - homemade recipes
Hey Ladies just wondering if anyone is infusing thier oils and what herbs thier using?
I tired olive oil but the smell was not good so I use grapseed oil for most infusions now.
Also I like to add lavender buds to all of them for the smell.
hibiscus
calendula
lavender
horestail
nettle
comfrey leaf
lavender
are my best so far, how about you?

Can you explain how you make your infusions and how long do they last. TIA.

Sure,
I fill a 4oz glass jar with the herbs, then put in the oil til the herbs are fully covered and the jar is full.
Then put the open jar in a pot full of water, put the burner on the lowest setting for 6 hr. After I put the cap on, shake it up and place in a dry cool place for 2 weeks, and shake it up everyday.
You can use a crockpot depending on your jar size.
After the 2 weeks I strain the oil and use it; or for a stronger infusion, I strain the oil, add new herbs, and start over with the same oil.
I add Vit E or Tea Tree oil to help preserve, & sometimes add EOs or Fragrance oil to the finish product.
Grape Seed Oil has worked the best so far, I'm trying out safflower oil next.
I only like to make small batches, 4oz max, cuz I can use them up way before the can go bad.
I hope this helps. If you try it please let me know how it turned out )

Thanks again. I totally want to try this out. I am assuming I can use the refined oils (safflower and grapeseed) they sell in the supermaket for cooking.

Yes, they are great to seal. One extra thing before you put the oils in the jar rough them up a bit, crush or crumble them with your fingers, it helps get more out of them

I've recently been reading a lot on infusing oil and found these pages helpful. Hope they might be helpful to others as well.

Can you smell the lavender in your infusions? I used them for antiseptic purposes but I can't really smell anything. Bought lavender extract for scent purposes.

I usually add 2tbs or so as the last item in my 4oz oil mix and its the first sent that hits my nose. I use grape seed oil too, which is orderless.
Hope that helps

Try fresh rosemary, very good for the hair and scalp.
