Default So Older Women Can't Look Sexy????

I was at my daughter's house yesterday helping her with her Halloween witch costume for the party tonight. Not a scary witch. She will be wearing the striped orange and black tights. She wasn't too happy with the hat she bought and I suggested cocking it to the side a little. She did then made the comment that it made her look like an old woman "trying" to look sexy.

I'm going as a black cat and I plan on looking sexy. In fact, because of her comment I will go out of my way to look very sexy. I won't be showing cleavage or wearing a g-string, (lol) but my outfit will be form fitting and I have a very sexy jeweled collar, ears, and a great tail. I plan on cat eyes which will look good since my eyes are already green. I'll also paint the tip of my nose black and draw on whiskers.

So, can only young women look sexy? I'm 58 and I think I look damn sexy.

Just look at Hollywood to answer your question - Michelle Pfieffer, Susan Sarandon, Kim Catrall, Sharon Stone.... need I go on?

My own Sister is 54 and guys go nuts for her.

Of course we can, and we do.

But maybe not to our children, which is fine because they aren't the "target audience"....

Lotsa, you are 10 years older than I am, and I'm guessing you probably look sexier than I do. And I bet you got a lot of compliments last night.

Sexiness is not limited to 20- and 30-somethings! Younger women sometimes don't see us as "competition," but they are wrong. (I don't mean that in a bad way; hope it does not come across negatively). Men -- younger and older -- flirt with me, so I assume they find me attractive at least.

well, since i am turning 60 this month i have given this a lot of thought. sexy is not alabaster perfection, sexy is knowing who you are, having fun and enjoying your life, having meaningful friendships and relationships of all kinds with people of all ages, saying what you mean and meaning what you say, learning new skills, using your body for something more than carrying your head around. i feel fortunate to be healthy and strong. today i hiked 10 miles. sex is not what it used to be, but it is still wonderful. menopause is no big deal. i see signs of aging but overall it's a good life. i appreciate every wolf whistle i get now rather than disdaining them as i did in my 20s. people in their 40s seem young to me now. i envy you lotsawaves for a body that can wear a cat costume. however despite my lumps and bumps i feel pretty sexy most of the time.....so far so good--

We're convinced of it. Now if we could just convince the younger generation.

Default So Older Women Can't Look Sexy?

I'm with jeepcurlygirl on this one! That said, my husband doesn't seem to looking elsewhere, and I'm 62 now - LOL! Attitude, confidence, and some decent health and fitness habits go a long way, plus leaving a little to the imagination if one doesn't feel comfortable baring it all the way we did when we were younger. Sometimes it seems like some younger women don't like us mature women looking too good because they're afraid we might steal their thunder. Also, our culture has rather narrow views of what constitutes sexiness anyway. But look at European culture, for example, and you will see a different aspect at work with a greater appreciation for mature women to boot.

I think anyone of any age can be sexy.

But, I do think that lots of cleavage and thigh can look like one is trying to just look younger - and not necessarily in a good way. When done in a certain way, it can look poserish. Done well, it looks good.

But, on Halloween, it's perfectly fine for women to let out the inner skank/slut/sex kitten/whatever and go for it!

I'm almost 41, and I think I look pretty sexy...BUT it is different than when I was 20.

I don't like the look of a 40+ woman trying to be sexy in the same way a 22 year old would. Even if you are in fabulous shape, I think there are certain fashions that were meant to be worn only by sweet young things, and that women our age look sexier when we wear more sophisticated things. Some of the fashions that look good on a college student just make women our age look sort of hard, if you know what I mean.

My theory is that fresh-faced young women with dewy skin will look pretty and sexy IN SPITE OF whatever atrocious trend is currently popular. I personally think that they look MORE beautiful and sexier without the current fashion for too much dark eye makeup and that skinny jeans flatter no one, not even the skinny...but young girls can carry off that look in spite of its basic unflattering-ness.

Most trends popular among the very young are more a form of signalling "Look, I am young and nubile and can wear awful-looking clothes and still look good!"

Now, many of us 40 somethings are in great shape physically, but even if we are very well-preserved, wearing teen fashions just looks silly. We should go for a more sophisticated sort of sexiness. I'm thinking of how 1930's movie stars had that sort of grown-up glamor. They looked like beautiful, sexy WOMEN, not tarted-up teenagers.

JMHO of course. I don't mean to offend anyone -- if you honestly can carry off youthful fashions, more power to you!
