Post hair product help

when it comes to hair products i tend to be a bit of a PJ. before i knew about CG i had bought so many different kinds of shampoos and conditioners. i've used herbal eccenses (sp?),aussie, tresseme and probably others too. The reason i was trying out so many different products was because all of them were leaving my hair dry. Then i found out about the Curly Girl routine (CG) and little did i know all of those shampoos contained harmful chemicals called sulfates. i was really suprised at how many different sulfates there were were in some of my shampoos.

These two sulfates were in all of the shampoos mentioned above (tresseme although only had the first one):

ammonium laureth sulfate
ammonium lauryl sulfate

another thing i didn't know about before was that silicones are also bad for your hair. They don't exactly destroy it but they build up and will make your hair greasy.

The matching conditioners for the shampoos above all have a silicone chemical called:cytopentasilioxane
I also found this silicone in one of my herbal essences styling products : none of your frizzness smoothing leave in creme.

So basically when you are using the CG routine you don't use shampoo (if you really have to then try to find one without sulfates). instead you wash your hair with a NON SILICONE conditioner. Sometimes you may not always realize there are silicones in your condish. a good rule to follow is that any ingredient ending in "cone" or "xane" is a type of silicone.

My question is does anybody know a good leave in conditioner that is available at walmart or a drugstore that isn't too expensive? I have really thick 3a hair btw

I would happily appreciate your help!!

You can use your regular rinse out as a leave in...if that feels too heavy for your hair you can try one of the VO5 or Suave Natural conditioners as a leave in. The VO5 Blackberry Sage makes a nice co-wash or light leave in.

wow really? i didn't know that thanks! I am trying the CG method as soon i have all the right products (i tried CG recently but found a hidden cone in my co-wash grr) . I was going to buy sauve naturals anyway cuz i've heard a lot of good things about it here. Just one question, is sauve naturals good enough to use as a reguler condish as well or is it not good enough? and if it's not good enough, do you know any good condish that is no more than $10 and that i can find at walmart.

thanks!!!!

Some people find that Suave and VO5 conditioners work as rinse outs but most people like something richer. I don't shop at Wal-Mart (I live in a very rural area and shop online) so I'm not sure what they carry. If you read through the posts here you'll see what people with hair similar to yours are using and maybe get some ideas. The knock off of Biolage Conditioning Balm at Sally's is reasonably priced and a really nice conditioner...I see people using the Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition or something like that but I'm not sure if it's CG.

Have fun,

M
