Help! My niece had ringworm in hair!

Hi all,

I thought I would come to you all for some advice with my 3-year old nieces hair. She has very tightly coiled, and sometimes dry curls (probably in the 4's somewhere.) In any event, we discovered she had ringworm in her hair a few weeks ago. The virus is gone, but she now has two sizely bald spots in the back of her hair. Luckily, we are able to cover them up with cute ponytails, but her mom is still patiently waiting for the hair to grow back in.

Any suggestions on how we can care for her hair and promote growth?

BTW her mom doesn't have much experience dealing with curlies as she is a relaxed girl, so I am trying my best to pass on valuable information.

When my 3 year old got ringworm, I had to take him to the doctor to get him on an antibiotic to get rid of it. I also used a topical medicine on it as well. Once it is gone, the hair will start to grow back. In my son's case, it took approx. 2-3 weeks for the hair to start to grow back and fully cover the bald spots. Just give it some time and patience.

As far as caring for his hair, I just used the same products as I always did for his hair. You may want to try a product that has tea tree in it as that is said to have medicinal/antibacterial properties. DO NOT use it straight as it is said to cause scalp tingling/burning.

Yes, we took her to the doctor and she has taken all of her antibiotic, I was just wondering if there was something to help the grow back. Right now we are being patient, and she does have some fuzz.

You could possibly use castor oil on those spots. I've read on these boards that it's known for hair growth. But, use only a little because a little goes a long way.
