curly hair is becoming a pain
So many things to think about, worry about, check on!
What are the dew points? I need to check them before I do my hair because the dew points change on a daily basis.
Do my products contain humectants, protein, silicone, sulfates, mag sulfate, etc......?
I used to have really great, clumpy, frizz-free, shiny curls. Now I have stringy, frizzy, undefined curls when I use the same products!
I haven't used re:coil for a couple days. Yesterday, not so much curl, today I have curls with plenty of frizz.
I'm getting my hair cut today and purchasing BRHG on my way home. Maybe this will help.
I'm to the point where I think curls are just too much work! My husband said I'm too worried about my curls being perfect. I'll settle for frizz-free, defined curls. Is that asking too much?

I really wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as your hair is healthy and shiny that's what really matters. Nature-induced frizz is.....a part of nature. Sometimes I feel like this Web site puts more pressure on curly people than straight-haired people do. I don't need absolutely perfect, frizzless, completely well-defined curls. I just want curls are under control (for work) and look and feel healthy.
But as I've said before - When medication stops working people don't agonize and spend mucho bucks trying to figure out what medication will work better. They go see a professionally trained doctor on a regular basis who can assess your changing symptoms and give you the right medicine at the right time. Likewise, we need more curly-hair specialists graduating from the beauty institutes who can be "doctors" for our hair. We shouldn't be thrown into the desert/forest to figure it all out on our own and lose gobs of money in the process.

When I learned to stop worrying so much and quit obsessing over it all, my hair looked a ton better.
I guess it was just trying to tell me "LEAVE ME ALONE!!!"
I don't really need to worry about all that stuff. I still don't see how I would need to cut out humectants in the winter. I don't even know what humectants are!
The only thing I really pay attention to are dew points, and I don't have to check them every day. I really just base it on how cold or hot it is and I am fine.
I don't need to worry about sulfates because pretty much all all natural things don't have sulfates, same with silicones. Yes, I will give the ingredient list a once over, but if I stick to the same things I already know there aren't any in them.
My hair likes mag sulfate so I'm good there.
The only thing I have to pay attention to is protein. I can only use it every so often. If a product has protein in it I will write "Has protein" on the front of the bottle.
I think if you find products that work, stick with them. My hair looks and acts better when I have several products that I rotate.
Don't cut some out just because they have humectants, unless you find that it makes a difference, which, for me, it makes absolutely no difference.
If your hair is fine, don't mess with a good thing.

Don't worry about it. Really. This site is all about people sharing what works for them or what doesn't work for them. It's very informative, but it can be overwhelming too. I learned a lot, tried a few things, and then simplified my routine. I don't think about dew points, I found a few things that work, and I just don't give it much thought. It takes me a lot less time to get my hair ready than the average female (both curly and straight). It can be done. You can have a simple routine and still look good. But everyone's hair is different. What works for me may not work for you...that's why there's so much info out there.

I read everything, tried everything, and then gave up everything as a whole and just pieced together what worked for me.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure some of you have noticed it's been a bad couple weeks by some of the things I have posted.
Well, I got my hair cut last night. She cut about an inch off. My hair feels so much better. She did agree that my hair looked damaged, especially my ends. I think it had something to do with my last color (I color it at home). I noticed the day after we did my color that my ends were very brittle.
My hair feels so much better. It's straight today because my stylist always blows it out, but I can tell it's a lot better. I messed around with it before she straightened it and it just felt different.
Thanks for listening (reading) to my vents the last couple weeks. I'm hoping for better hair days.
ETA: Now that I got my hair cut, I'm going back to the products that worked for me in the past. I don't think I'm even going to get involved in dewpoints. I still might pick up some BRHG and try it for a change.

pinksugar - I feel your pain! I can't get into stuff like dew points, humectants etc. - gets a little too technical for me. I'm just happy if my hair looks half-way decent on any given day, and I do have a simple CG routine, just sticking to a few products that people with similar hair as mine use. I just CAN'T experiment with 9000 things, even cheap ones - my budget and patience don't allow it - LOL@
