Funny I was just thinking about this today. I was looking at some individual hairs on me and seeing some that are tightly wound, some that have maybe 1/2 inch or so curls, some that are ziggyzaggy, some that are straight. And a lot that are loosely wound.

I think this is pretty normal.

I style based on what the overall look is like, and don't worry about the additional frizz and texture that the mix of hairtypes adds, it's just how my hair is. I mean, short of perming it how are you gonna change it?

I was so thinking this today as well!

Overall I am 3a medium texture and porousity. I have a fist sized patch on my right side that is 3b/slightly porous, and an area on the opposite side that is almost 2c!

And then, in the back, underneath my canopy, I have another large fist sized area of 3c/POROUS!!

My hair is the same way. I wish I had more uniform curls but... at least I'm not alone.

That's me too! There's a wiry super dry texture (defies curl categories) along the under canopy that causes all the fluffy bulk, a combo of 2c to 3a coarse curls on canopy and a light sprinkling of fine STRAIGHT hair near the temples. I am beginning to think my regimen needs to be changed up for different sections of hair!

Thats why it is super important to base your products on texture, porosity, etc and not curl type!

I really think it's more the norm to have more than one type than not to, including different porosity and elasticity in different spots - a lot depends on how the different areas are treated. Condition it all well to try to minimize those differences, and the degree of curl and their texture becomes a little more uniform.

I use more product on the weaker side and more leave in on the coarser areas. I also scrunch the weaker side and rake thru the tighter area.

Default for all the curlies with many hairtypes on one head!

And here I thought I was the only one who suffers with this! Underneath my only slightly wavy canopy, there are real curls, and a couple pieces near my face are very loose as well. Otherwise it's 3a, with maybe even a teeny bit of 3b wa-ay underneath. I never know how my hair is going to behave on any given day, despite going CG. The jury is still out on CG for me, as I'm only barely 2 months in.

To smooth, I braid it for a couple of days to stretch it out. That sort of forces the hair into compliance like a roller set.

For wavy I comb it downward when wet from side or center part, then gently scrunch up but no upside-down styling. That is the least 'consistent' look, likely 'cause it's the most natural?

For curlier, I diffuse upside down and try to part it strategically, so that the top layer looks more or less the same all over. Like part it at the waviest section in front so that it looks more like the back does.

i've found that over night plopping is the only thing that seems to give my hair a more consistent look. when i dont over night plop, i just try to extra scrunch my right side (the side the curls less) and apply extra product, and also also make sure to flip my hair over (bending over) and get the back of my hair, the tighter curlys, and extra scrunch the front part, which is the canopy once i toss my hair back, which is where my curls are looser. going to get layers soon too, and hopefully this helps my hair look more 3b-ish.

it does drive me crazy that my curls dont look uniformed tho!!!!

Yes forgot to mention overnight plop. I do this too. I part and comb down first (then scrunch, then upside down to put into plop) or the roots get wonky.

i tried plopping over night and i did not like it. first of all it gave me a headache, but it also seemed like it sucked all my products and left my hair without any moisture. ill just have to try something else
