Oh dear. She makes it worse for herself really. I loved her in 90s- she was sexy and fun and had bit modesty about her (her music was also far better! )

I also thought she was better way back when.

+1 about old Mariah.
She has never really had good fashion sense. I think her provocative dressing is a failed attempt to hang onto her youth.

I don't know, I think it's a step in the right direction. Isn't that less skin than she normally shows.

Oy vey....
Well, at least her breasts aren't also flapping in the breeze like they usually are.

I don't get it. With her figure, you really don't need to show much to be vavavoomish. I have a similar figure, good sized breasts and bottom, not at all a size 2. If I wear something formfitting with cleavage showing, I feel veeery sexy. And, I can't imagine wearing a mini anything. But, then again, I'm not a pop star, so...

It's a very "cartoonish" look to have garters showing like that. Despite the big fake cartoon breasts she bought, Mariah hasn't figured out that she's not literally a cartoon. It really only works for Jessica Rabbit:

when her first video came out is was spellbound by her looks and body. the music was ok but she had a pure energy about her. then everyone noticed her and that old dude got his hooks in her and she was rooned ever since.
once a girl knows she's hot because the guys flip over her the spark disappears. ever since she seams insecure and desperate to regain whatever she lost.
i feel sorry for beautiful women in todays society.

Or, "What the hell are THOSE?"
Or, "Did you mean to leave the green room like that?"
Or, "Can I get you a blanket?"

I think it's possible for women to age with dignity although MC is a poor example. Your post reinforces the myth of youthful (girlish/ untouched/ unspoiled) beauty as being best. But maybe a lot of men thinkk this way?

In that same vein, a woman with knowledge [knowledge of self, knowledge in general] is no longer sexy.
Pretty dang misogynistic. And actually not too terribly true across the board, luckily. Just the insecure men tend to feel this way.

There are some men who hold zman's immature view of female beauty, but most of the middle-aged men that I know seem to appreciate a mature woman's beauty and don't see aging as sad at all.

I saw her on Jay Leno last week:
RCW I thought she was going for the Jessica Rabbit thing too--to modify a JR quotation:
"I'm not bad, I'm just dressed that way."
She could look so much better. She kept adjusting her dress and she looked stiff and uncomfortable. It really looked like she was about to spill out of the top of her dress. I just think it is the opposite of sexy to wear something like that, have it be ill fitting and you look completely uncomfortable and not confident wearing it.
I feel a little sorry for her.
