Default getting to the bottom of my bad hair woes

so, i think i might be getting to the bottom of my hair woes. I haven't used a soap bar in over a week and my hair is coming back to life. I have a feeling i was using soap bars too much. Plus i stopped lo pooing (not totally) becuase i was using the bars so much. I lo pooed wednesday and then again today and my hair is diggin it. I must say i am LOVING the poo i got in a swap from Del2c. It's EO. Anywho, i think i fianlly figured it out. I'm not about to stop using the soap bars as my hair really does like them but not 2-3 times in a week.

Glad to hear it! It is frustrating when your hair starts acting weird and you don't know why.
My hair likes shampoo bars, but only once a week.

I'm glad that you have figured out what was causing the problem. I know how frustrated you were!

I can't get past the way my hair feels using a shampoo bar. It feels coated and stripped at the same time, even with an ACV rinse. But my hair is pretty delicate right now, so maybe it's because of that. I do really well with just co-washing, so I don't really low-poo too often anyway.

I gave my shampoo bar to my husband because he is (nearly) bald by choice (he buzzes his own hair with clippers..it's hilarious to watch) and he was washing from head to toe with regular soap. So at least this way I know his head is getting clean with something that was meant to be used there, lol.

2-3 times a week does seem like overkill for the soap bars.

The differences in water will do that! Where I used to live, my hair could take Prell original (HARSH!) at least every 2 weeks. If I was using styling products often, then at least once a week. The water was that hard. Since I moved to a new city and have a softener, I can CO-wash and haven't needed a low-poo. The CO-wash alone does enough cleaning for me.

I came from hard. So yeah, the combination of soft and bars seemed to effect my hair.
I had flippin' ringlets in my hair yesterday...underneath, but they were ringlets
Annie...I'm sorry i haven't answered you about what a soap bar is. I just know that my hair loves them...in moderation. I know kathymack loves them too. She attributes her summer curls to summer curls all year long due to the bars

I did that too!! Not all of them of course (Ima PJ so ordered several). My ex has 4Z hair (think brillo pad with Z waves..no coils or curls really) and he *always* shaves it off or leaves like 1/4 of an inch. He's Egyptian but his hair is likely from his great grandpa from the Sudan as the texture is not like his brother or parents or even cousins. Most Egyptians seem to have 2-3 hair somewhere--I haven't met too many with his 4 type hair.

My kids hate it when he goes bald as they like at least some hair. His hair is super fragile and breaks off very easily.

He has always just used regular soap bars (Dial, Zest, etc) or Suave Clarifying. His face and scalp is very oily--so finally I told him the reason it was oily is because he is constantly stripping it. He teaches karate and works out a lot so he does multiple showers daily which was not helping his skin.

He is seriously in love with kathymack bars! I also gave him one of my bars I use on my face which is from Carley's Clear and Smooth (acne system) but it's all natural and a great soap. He said his hair (what little there is!) has never felt this good ever. I also put some Qhemet Biologics olive and honey balm and some amla olive heavy cream on his head when he was here one night.Just from doing that my hand was beet red for an hour! Seriously brillo texture! But he said his hair was so soft he couldn't stop touching it. I'm going to order more bars for him when I get paid again for his birthday!

I just had to laugh at your post since I just did this too!

it's worth a try. Not all wavies like um. You either love um or hate um. I can send you a few samples if you'd like. Alexjoujou was so kind to send me a bunch. I can give back and send you one or two

so basically, soap bars are good for hard water problems?..i read in the boards that soap bars even with ACV rinses are not so good when used too often..i think my hair likes that combo, but i'm not yet sure how often i should use them to balance keeping my hair clean and keeping my hair away from SLS..i have hard water and it seems to help clean me up not my curl so much but it really feels clean..i'm trying to choose between soap bars+ACV or Baking soda+ACV for my wash at least 3x a week..

i don't know if their necessarily good for only hard water. People with soft water use them with luck. You are right in saying using them too often is not good. I think once a week is a good start.
Tou can try both. some people hate soap bars. You may love them. Give it a try.

Guys are so funny sometimes. My man doesn't understand that some products are meant for specific body parts. For example, even though I have tons of skin care products, when his face gets dry he just gets out the body lotion and puts that on his face. I think he is afraid he might grow breasts if he uses something girly of mine.
