We're a metro area of over 1,000,000 people, so more than you'd have in a small town! Most nights I know of at least 5 concerts happening, whether or not I want to go to any of them. We have some all night restaurants, late night bowling alleys, mini golf, a huge arcade which is apparently popular, etc. An hour out of town there's an observatory which does public tours, movie theaters with late showings, and usually in the evenings we have some sort of theater events possible the last half of the week/weekend.
There are lakes where you can fish or rent boats not too far away, caves to explore, mountains to hike, and many outdoor paths. We also have a great local restaurant network.
Yet people here say there's nothing to do and the town is boring.
Amazing. You express that you just realized there's not much going on there at night - which sounds like you probably make it entertaining for yourself. It surprises me how much others can't do the same where I live, since there's so much already here. After living in a small town for four years I know about lack of anything to do and am grateful we have stuff going on!

The tall blonde lets out a cry of despair says,
Would have cut it myself if I knew men could climb hair
I'll have to find another tower somewhere
and keep away from the windows
'Cause I don't care for your fairytales
You're so worried 'bout the maiden though you know
She's only waiting on the next best thing
