most people that relax their hair are only interested in wearing their hair straight (not their natural curls). that's what i did for 16 years, although the no-lye relaxers still didn't take all of the texture out of my hair. what i had was basically a texturizer, which is semi-relaxing the curl so it's not as tight. this enables you to wear a curly style, but also when you straighten your hair it tends to hold better (in my experience anyway) because of the chemical alteration to your hair strands.

my curly fro now is at collarbone when straightened.... basically the length i had when i started transitioning! hooray for growth!!! =)
