Default maxiglide-totally bummed?

so i run out and buy the maxiglide after reading all of the reviews thinking this would be better than my flat irons.

Heres what i did: shampoo and conditioned. blew dry with redken straighten balm (luv) and then used the maxiglide. I followed the instructions but the darn thing never steamed! And on top of that it is only kinda straight. oh i also used a heat protector (nexxus). I got no curl and like i said it is only kinda straight. I dont understand why it never steamed. I had it at 4 then 5. When i was done i cranked it all the way up and pressed the button to see if it would steam then and it didnt.

Talk about disappointed. If any of you ladies have any pointers please let me know.

Sigh 3 hours for nothing

Did u put enough water in the lil container ? . i have a maxiglide for a year now and the first one i had quit after 6 months , so i was able to geta new free one cuz of the 1 yr warrenty. this one has lasted me and i noticed the steam worked much better than the first one, if u are not getting out any steam then the steam button is either brocken or the steam hole is glogged . either way wherever u got it u should be able to return it and get a new one , plus with the 1 yr warrenty u can send it out to the maxi company and they fix it and if they cant they send u a new 1 for free.. theres a website on the box and a 1-800 if u have any issues. HTH!

Yep, i filled the lil container and nothing. My husband said it sounded like steam wanted to come out but it just never did. I am going to try to return it tonight. If not over the weekend. I got it from Bed Bath & Beyond. I will buy another one and give it a try. Though I was kinda freaked that when straighting my hair it wasnt all the same length per section. I mean I have layers but it looked like it was broken off or something and i just got a trim. But i didnt see any hair caught in the maxiglide. In the meantime my husband is saying get a perm.

Ive been natural for 3 years now. I havent been putting any heat on my hair (blow drying and flat ironing). I just wanted to try something different for the winter so i didnt walk out with a wet head all the time. If this doesnt work, guess i might be walking out with a wet head.

Oh I a going to try the 800 number again. I didnt get anyone the first time i called this morning. But then again I am in a different time zone.

thats strange that u had a few pieces come out . i know that the comb plate will do that , it gave me flyaways after a while , u gotta make sure that u brush your hair each time u use it., but i did brush and still got flyaways...after a while i just used the flat plate cuz there was less tugging from it and no flyaways , i find the flat plate works just fine , and i only use it on the 4 heat level for my hair..i dont use the maxi glide as much as i use too..mabye like once every 6 months now i will flat iron my hair , i wear it more curly now.

Hmmm, that's odd. It worked quite well for me even without steam. Did you watch the DVD? It has a bunch of helpful tips that helped me get it to look good when straight.

This is going to sound really dumb, but you pushed the button to get the steam, right?

I find that I have to hold it at the right angle to get it to steam. It has to be totally straight, on it's side - if it's angled at all, or the flat part is pointing upward, it won't steam.

I found if I use the maxiglide like a normal flat iron that is doesnt work as well. I, too, was initially disappointed until I followed the instructions to a T. Now I literally let it glide(no pressure from my hand) and when I get to an area that it catches on I lighten my grip and use the steam. Works like a charm and my hair is straight. Good luck to you. If you still don't have any luck you can return it back to the company. I'm almost positive it has a year warranty.

Very true. With a regular flat iron you squeeze to "press" your hair, and move quickly down. If you do this w/ the Maxiglide, you'll rip your hair out. You need to move slower, and not squeeze the plates together. And let up and steam if it gets stuck.

Or pretty much exactly what smokindiva said, I just apparently felt the need to reiterate it.

I was a die hard Maxiglider for a while, but now, I'm not so impressed. I used it according to the instructions and the appliance worked fine. The only problem I encountered is that my hair wouldn't stay straight or should I say, get completely straight with it. It would seem straight at first, but then thirty minutes later it would start to frizz because the hair isn't totally straight yet. I just don't think it gets hot enough for my 3c/4a hair. I just got a Wigo Onyx and it is the BEST. It gets to 420 degrees. My hair is as straight and shiny and frizz free as when I had a perm. I got mine on sale for $20 bucks at a store near my house. I think it retails for 150 regularly. If you can, take back the Maxiglide...sorry to be negative...I just don't want you to be frustrated a month from now when you're stuck with it and it still isn't working.

Here is a link to a beauty supply site I googled and found. They're also for sale on Ebay. I'm not sure why Ulta was ever selling them at 149. It looks like they usually retail for 50 bucks. I really like it. Please keep in mind that I tried it on hair that had already been partially straightened using the maxiglide. Since I can't return the darn thing, I'm going to use the maxiglide and then use the wigo to shape and defrizz my hair. Next week sometime when I was my hair, I'll try and straighten my hair from the start using the wigo and see if it works.

I'd suggest getting one before your maxiglide dies on you. If you like it keep it, if you don't return it. (of course you'll have to buy it at a store like Ulta or sally's to return it...no returns on Ebay).

YEah... make sure you buy from a place you can return things to. And keep the warrenty info. I read reviews for other Wigo products online and they weren't too good. I hope that mine continues to work well for me. BTW I think the one I have has been discontinued which is why it is so cheap right now.
