Flat iron damage..

Has anyone decided to flat iron their curls and to your horror found out that the salon damaged your hair so badly you had to have it cut short?..This has recently happend to me and Im trying to find out how others handled the shock of long locks now cut so short you barely have any curl left. I use to have the most beautiful long curly hair but I got silly one afternoon and had a salon flat iron it to see how Id look with long silky smooth locks..well I got smooth hair but I had a head full of burned, fish hook split ends so bad that the only way to fix this mess was to cut it nearly as short as a pixie cut. Ive got some length left but it barely curls..Im not entirely unhappy with this new look considering the heat we've had lately but I want to see it back to the orignal look..long flowing curls. Are there others who did this and wish they hadn't.????

I've read that diluted ACV in water rinses could help bring back the curls.

I'm kinda confused how one flat ironing session destroyed your hair that bad. Did you not use heat protectant? What kind of iron did was used? I've flat ironed my hair weekly for the past 2 years and have yet to see damage anywhere near what you described.

As for repair, I recently used ApHogees 2 Minute Keratin Repair Treatment from Sally's like (http://www.sallybeauty.com/keratin-r...efault,pd.html) after hearing it works wonders. My hair isn't super damaged, but I'm trying to keep it healthy. My hair was extremely soft and shiny after using it. ApHogee also has a 2-Step Protein Treatment and Balanced Moisturizer (http://www.sallybeauty.com/Aphogree-...efault,pd.html) that I've heard of people using after having their hair damaged badly by chemical treatments. My hair's never been that badly damaged so I haven't used it personally, but everything I've tried from this brand has been awesome and affordable.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I feel your pain.

I had terrible heat damage last summer (July 2009) after going to get my hair flat ironed at a salon. There were alot of broken pieces and it shed like crazy. I used the Aphogee 2 step treatment and it did help.

It was bad but I didn't want to cut it. I stuck it out, while doing the protein treatments every 6 weeks and deep conditioning once a week. I'm glad I didn't cut it because it eventually started to look healthy after a few months.

I got it flat ironed by a different stylist in July of this year and believe I have heat damage again. It still curls with no problem, but there's ALOT of split ends, and it feels pretty rough. I refuse to cut it all off though..I'll just continue doing the protein treatments and deep conditioning instead.

I won't be getting it flat ironed again anytime soon though.
