I have a Croc Infrared 1 1/2 " and a Chi-1"
Croc is faster and shinier
Chi is a smoother result

Try the U-Smooth flat-iron. It heats all the way up to 450 degrees in less than a minute (but has adjustable temp if your hair can't handle that heat). The high heat makes straightening VERY fast! And the titanium coated plates let the iron pull through your hair smoothly to avoid frizz. Check it out: u-Smooth Salon Straightener and Flat Iron for Hair: Hot Hair Irons

I rarely straighten, but when I do I use a GHD. I used to straighten every few days and I invested in high quality tools at that time. Its the best flat iron I've ever used, and even though I hardly use it anymore, its still a great tool to have.

Make sure to get an iron the has adjustable temperature settings. Here's how to find your setting: http://u-smooth-hairstyle.blogspot.c...-to-right.html

I have a Remington, but I can't figure out to use it to get a particular type of wave (which was the whole reason I bought it).

I have two different ones I use. My old faithful is my Remington Professionals. It works like a dream and has temperature settings which is breat because I generally like to flat iron at 300-340 degrees. I recently bought the Paul Mitchell Smoothing iron. It's the one they use in Paul Mitchell salons and schools.

Ive used a Croc for about a year and it worked very well on my thick coarse hair. But be careful, it will take away the curl if you use it too much. My hair stopped curling for a while until I stopped straightening my hair and my curls came back finally. But all in all, good straighter. Keeps hair straight.

Jibere de Paris Steam Flat Iron

Leave my hair soft and moisturized. It usually stay straight for 5 days, with day 10 ending in my crown and ends reverting back.
