Keratin Treatment

Hi, I'm new here! I have caucasian, thin, fine, color-treated kinky/curly hair. I would LOVE a low-maintenance, wavy (NOT stick-straight) look, and today, in my inbox, I got a groupon for a very high end salon in town offering a "Royal Keratin Treatment" for $150.

First, is this a good deal? I've only heard about the treatments in passing, so I'm not sure what they usually run.

Second, will this make my hair stick straight? The picture in the ad shows a girl with very straight hair--which I don't want. I just want looser, less frizzy, more manageable curls.

Can you guys give me your thoughts on this? I want to get some second opinions before I pull the trigger! Thanks!

you should probably repost this question in the keratin services thread, or simply poke around there and you'll find your answer.

Your results will depend on a variety of factors.

1. The brand of BKT ( Brazilian keratin treatment) being used. Some of the treatments have high levels of Formaldahyde. The higher the concentration the straighter your results.
2. Technique. The more passes with the flat iron, the straighter your results
3. the state of your hair ( the more damaged the better). chemically treated hair responds better to the treatment.

I'll end by saying that no two people have the same outcome when they get the treatment done. You have to be willing to throw caution to the wind with on this one. The good thing is that most of these treatments wash out within a month or two.

The only thing that I know is that I have had the Coppola Keratin Treatment done twice before, and I loved it!! It made my hair almost straight - but still wavy, and I was able to let it air-dry most of the time.

One downside - mine washed out in 2 months even though they said it would last for 3 months. But, I wash my hair everyday, so I'm sure that shortened the length of time.

I paid $300 for mine.

Google that brand as well. The more formaldehyde in the product the straighter your results

Yes, I agree with you.

Have you ever heard of Kera Smooth or Brazilian Blowout Zero? I was wondering if either one was any good. Thank you!!

I've heard of both, but you just need to google and search for reviews. Try youtube as well. I haven't used these brands so i can't speak to their efficacy. I'm also 100% natural. No color, and I have ethnic 4a/b/3c hair, so what works for me, probably won't be what works for you.

Thanks, Hairguru17. I'll do that.
