Default question abuot straightening

I straighten my bangs regularly. But lately I've heard from stylists to not start using a round brush until it's 80% dry so avoid extra breakage, but I"m afraid if I wait taht long my cowlicks will beat me on who controls direction. Any tips/ideas on how to not get breakage but win the fight with my cowlick?
