I'm curious if any ladies used heat on a regular basis while they were going natural. I only straightened my hair twice in 3 months. I find I get less shedding when my hair is straight. My ends also look better. I usually air dry my roller sets and do a blow out. Or I flat iron on a lower setting. I get pretty good results. Please let me know if anyone was successful with using heat on their hair while transitioning.

Teehee I see your creeping back to the dark side lol JK.

I've been so bad I flat ironed my hair april 14th and now again april 30th. I haven't even done the rollerset like I said I would because my hair is so uneven is a chore. I'm just watching the heat temp, using it at 350-370 degrees. Good news is my natural hair is curly right back up nicely, so I will continue to flat iron if I choose to and just be sure to wrap and moisturize ends and hope for the best!

I haven't flat ironed my hair in a year. But I just roller set air dry and do a blow out to me it's less heat. My roots reverted back when wet or product is applied. I feel like I'm losing a lot of hair now. My hair tangled and cutting tangles is not fun . My ends are usually dry after a braid out. Out of the two times I used heat my hair didn't shed as much. I'll probably use heat every 2 weeks
I'm done with braid outs though too much manipulation. When I protective style, I'm sticking to buns

And girl life is too short for these hair can and can nots. If you want to flat iron do it! As long as you're not damaging your hair. I recommend alter ego conditioners. Very moisturizing. I want to be natural but that doesn't mean I have to drop using heat. My hair works better with roller sets, blow out, and wrapping. I don't have time to be Detangling and cutting knots out of my hair everyday

Hi @hippiedoll!

Yes, I used heat during my transition to natural on a regular based. That actually had a different effect on my hair than yours. My hair shed and broke off a lot when I flat ironed it regularly. My bf wld complain abt hair being everywhere. I wld do roller sets but my roots wldn't be as straight as I'd like.

I say transition as u see fit. I didn't want to big chop so heat styling was my alternative. Once I got enough length to be able to cut the relaxed ends off...I didn't hv to heat style any more. I don't see any breakage now that I do the CG method.

I only used heat on my hair twice since I began transitioning. I'm 3 months post. My hair doesn't shed with roller sets + blow out. Flat ironing yes. It makes my hair dry too. I haven't used it in a year. The braid outs I can't do anymore. I loose too much hair that way. I see a lot of hair than I normally do coming out and on the floor. I'm going to try rod sets to cut down on using heat every week/2 weeks

I follow the CG method primarily. I get off it when I straighten my hair. I get what you're saying. I don't really have a hair preference. I style my hair according to mood. At the beginning of my transition, I stayed away from heat. I'm going to get a short cut to see if it cuts down on knots, tangles, and matting. But using heat is a option I'm open to now

I flat iron regularly. Every 3 weeks. But lately ive been gettin into twist outs lately b/c in tha summer my hair poofs like crazy >______<. It seems fine b/c my hair is still growing nothing out of the usual though the longer you transition the harder it gets to straighten and make it last. For me it was because i live in ga with crazy weather. Sunny one minute raining the next. Environment plays a huge role. Just be sure to use a decent temperature,a good heat protectant, keep it moisturized, and wrap it at night.
