Why use keratin when you can texturize?

I am posting my question here because I think it got buried in the other thread....

Just wondering why the women here who want to loosen their curl pattern don't opt for a traditional texturizer/relaxer over a keratin treatment since texturizers have been around for 50 years and used much more widely.

Is there a difference in the result?

Texturizers are permanent, keratin treatments can be temporary. Both are damaging, one is just less likely to last as long.
Just because people have been using relaxers for 100+ years doesn't by default make it a better choice.

Not only was that rude, it was untrue. The only thing troll-like about me is my frizzy hair.

Let me introduce myself: I'm Zalim. I am a naturally curly haired gal researching options for loosening my curl pattern. As I explained in the keratin category a while back, I've done Global Keratin numerous times and have given up the formaldehyde-laced treatment due to its link to cancer.

My long-time hairdresser who has been against keratin from the start, suggests I try a texturizer/relaxer instead and I am wondering how those compare with the keratin.

So I hope that lays to rest any suspicions that I'm a "troll" LOL.

Wumi - By the way, this was the second time you replied to one of my posts rudely. Not sure what your issue is since we've never met or chatted. We're all here for information on curly hair, unless this is an exclusive club and it's time for me to move on ???

Some people should go by the saying, "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all." I don't know how someone asking a question warrants a rude response. Zalim, I wish I could answer your question but I know nothing about these kinds of things. Hopefully someone will give you a more respectful reply.

Ok...getting back on topic....

Relaxers use harsher chemicals than Keratin treatments. Plus, Keratin lasts for about 5 months or so which avoids women getting bored of having the same looking hair for too long. There are some really safe Keratin treatments that use natural oils like argan oil to significantly reduce damage. I've used Cocoa Keratin Smoothing Treatment and there has been no damage whatsoever (it has argan oil in it!).

It seems like if someone don't like what you say or write they feel the need to post mean comments on your thread. I treat threads like like a personal diary page if you don't like what i have to say move on to the next thread don't take time out of your day to be rude
(-_-) . Sometimes people have genuine concerns. i know not one person on here started off knowing it all thats why it puzzles me when some people act like they do. Btw what the heck is a troll? I see that term here alot and although i know its a form of insult i never knew the meaning

I have has both and to me keratin is better.

The results are more predictable(depending on formula)
the hair is smoother
less breakage
no scalp burns
resistant to humidity and reversion

I just read on The Truth About Hair-Straightening Treatments - Oprah.com that keratin treatments REVERT in a few months!!!
They damage the hair just as much as a relaxer but they are not permanent! It seems any damage from them can be cumulative then getting worse and worse. Japanese straighteners are permanent so you do NOT have to do the ends again over and over again.
