ORS Olive Oil Relaxer on caucasian hair

So I've read amazing reviews about this stuff and I'm looking for something to loosen my curls (if it goes bone straight, I'm fine with that too). I know ORS Olive Oil Relaxer is marketed towards African American hair, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has used it on caucasian hair and what were your results? I've been reading things cautioning against using "ethnic" products on caucasian hair (why, I'm not entirely sure but everyone says "Don't do it!!!"). I'm just terrified of damaging my hair right now as I'm getting married in 10 months and naturally, want perfect hair My hair is in good condition- I get very regular trims. I just love the way I look with looser, straighter hair. Advice?

It all depends on your hair. I am Caucasian/Hispanic and have used products designed for AA women for over 20 years, because they tend to be more moisturizing. Also because I started using relaxers at a very young age and I followed the advice I got from other "relaxers" who were almost all AA. I don't use them exclusively, they're just part of the many mix of products I throw in, like all of us curlies!

I can understand the reluctance if your hair is not that curly, but I started using lye-based relaxer after repeated attempts at using relaxers made for Caucasian hair resulted in miserable failure time after time. Once I started with "AA relaxers", I never looked back.

And yes, ORS is probably the best relaxer I've used, and I've used it in both lye- and no-lye formulas. I found it as good as Phytorelaxer, which is ten times the price.

In fact anyone who's read even one of my posts here knows that I am a walking talking advertisement for the entire ORS line, which is fantastic. I haven't used one product of theirs I dont' love.
Modified CG. You'll pry my 'cones from my cold dead fingers! Mixed waves, coarse, below shoulder length, dark brown. I hate my hair but I'm trying to learn to accept it.

Gels: LA Looks Wet Look Styling Gel, Garnier Fructis Wet Shine Gel. Condish: Alberto V05 Free Me Fresia, Tresemme' Flawless Curls, LVPNG, Neutrogena Triple Moisture. Shampoo: Tresemme' Flawless Curls. Silicone Serum: Whatever is on sale, but I don't leave home without it.
hehe...thanks for your input. Do you have pics of your hair? I think we may have similar hair types. I'm still on the fence. I'm just so scared of ending up with frizzy hair that isn't straight but isn't curly anymore. Argh. If only I had that "it's just hair" attitude.

Is your hair in good condition? If so you should get good results. When I relaxed last month (with ORS lye-based) I didn't want to leave the relaxer in the full time because my hair was already dry from coloring, so I only left it in half the time. I didn't get hair as straight as I wanted (sigh....) but it is definitely looser, much easier to straighten, and much less frizzy. I think it actually came out straighter when I used the ORS no-lye last year, but maybe my hair was just in a different frame of mind then

Just bear in mind that there is a price to be paid, in the sense that your hair will be weaker and drier. Even after a protein treatment my hair is still slightly damaged and dry. But I like its loose curl and ease of straightening so that was the tradeoff for me.

If you're really nervous, you could have it done professionally.

Sorry, I don't have pics of my hair but I think I'll be posting some soon. My hair is VERY coarse, super-thick, and frizz-prone.

You can still wear your hair curly, I do sometimes. It's not as curly as before (obviously!), and you lose a little shine but you can still do it.
