I need to get my hair straighten. Can anyone recommend a NYC (Queens) salon that does a good job straightening tightly curled hair with roller-setting? I know there are a ton of Dominican salons around but I hate to walk into a place without knowing if they can handle hair curlier than a 3b or worse, they are not gentle. Thanks!

The only one I know of that's awesome is Martha's but that's in Newark, NJ. So a bit of a ways from you but they do phenomenal hair and mine is a 3c border line 4.

in Manhattan on Broadway between 109 and 110 street, there is a Dominican salon called JVL & Pat's that charges $17 for a wash, rollerset, and blowdry (they used to charge $12 but they raised their prices)...they sometimes get extremely crowded so plan to spend at least a couple of hours there!

in queens, i go to this place in Corona on 108th (right across the st from the Lemon King) and they do a good job. unfortunately, i dont know the ladies name!! shes the older mom looking lady. LOL. but the BEST place i've been to is in the L.E.S. on Clinton St. you can take the F to Downtown/Manhattan train to Delancey and walk towards the bridge and then make a left on Clinton. the salon is called Milly's. all the ladies there are fantastic!!! they are always packed, so be prepared to wait. when they straighten my hair, i can go 2 week (as long as i wrap it at night) and my hair looks nice and flowy! i usually do straight blow outs cause i dont have patiences for rollers, but they of course, do roller sets. let me know if you have any other questions.

Oh, and in the NYC salon, i usually paid between 35-40 depending and my hair used to be long. i think thats pricey. the queens place i believe it was 25 or so. always ask ahead of time how much they are going to charge. my hair doesnt look like its hard to blow dry, but it is. and once, a lady wanted to up-me at the end of hair drying cause she said it was more work than she anticipated, but she knew she couldnt do that cause she had already quoted me.
