Liquid Keratin

I read the first few pages of the thread. I thought, I have to try this. I ordered LK from drugstore.com.

I followed the directions to a "T".. While it was weighed down with the treatment, it was stick straight, no frizz.

After the 48 hours were up, some slight frizz...

Will I buy this again...no.

I got the same results accidentally from Organix Vanilla Silk Serum as I did from doing the LK treatment..

I put way to much in my hair. I dried it. Then flat ironed. It was stick straight, no frizz and looked like grease...
Needless to say, I had to rewash it and start again.

In my opinion, all LK did was weigh my hair down.. I accidentally acheived the same thing with overuse of a product.

Ok, here's my final review. Will I be buying this again? No. It worked really well with that first application. My hair looked and felt great. After I washed my hair, it's like I washed it all out. My hair pretty much looks the same. It's no more damaged than it was before so it didn't hurt my hair, it just didn't do much for it.

I will most likely buy the leave-in again..its good stuff. The rest of it though is just WAY too overpriced for what it does. So I'm dissapointed...
3a on top and sides/3b underneath...lots of hair

I was all excited about the LK when I first saw it talked about on here, but since reading all of the posts I know it's not for me (I think 3B sort of dirty blonde hair). I can have my stylist use Ouidad deep treatment and relax ("soften") my hair for less than the cost of LK. Hopefully will have less damage resulting too! I live in Ohio and our spring and early summer is the worst for my hair- first rain, then 99% humidity for days on end. I do love the Ouidad climate control for that and I think my hair is mostly healthier than before I used her products. I don't work for them, and I wish their stuff was much cheaper but it's the best for my hair so far.
I have been lurking here for several years just seeing if anyone had the 'answer' for frizz. I like my curls mostly, but the frizz and the 'poof' are out of hand. I have tried straightening chemically, the curl and frizz came back within 2 weeks. I have tried reverse perm (combing perm solution through) and that seemed to work the best, although still poofy if there was the least bit of humidity. I have very thick, very curly, very frizzy hair that is very healthy, not damaged. I color but never highlight, no bleach. I usually do not blow dry, it would take me about an hour to do that. I do however flat iron every now and then after a day of wearing up in a twist, it takes about 1/2 an hour to flat iron. So, when I heard about this I googled around and I found the company's phone number (not customer service) I called it and spoke to the inventor/president. I laid it out there how stubborn my hair was, how I wanted it less frizzy/poofy but not straight, I wanted the choice. He said he invented this for his wife who also has 'jewish' hair like mine...lovingly called a 'jewfro' That said, he also told me she stopped using the expensive Brazil Keratin treatments due to the Formaldehyde issues. He said she got similar results with this. Well, today my hairdresser put it on my hair exactly how the instructions stated. She said it blew out easier and was easier to flat iron. It looks the same as when I would flat iron before, but it feels less course. Smell is weird, but not awful. My hair color is fine. I used a Chi iron. (those on the board who used a maxiglide---not a good idea, it steams your hair, that is not what they mean by flat iron) Anyway, I will be washing/neutralizing my hair on Weds night or Thursday morning (48 hours +) and I will take a picture and I will let you all know how it goes. And no, I do not work for any hair company at all, just a frizzy head from way back.

This product sounds interesting & has me intrigued, but I AM a little skeptical as there are a few post from newbies, with only one to 10 post(s), being only about LK. But there also are a few from others that have been here for a while -so please keep us updated with your results on this as I am interested - and I realize what works for one, may not work the same for another.

AphroDiva, thanks for all your input, which really helps. I have been keeping up with your hairblog, which is great btw - so please keep us updated with your progress/results on this.

Hi All!
I am also a newbie to this site by doing a Keratin google search. I was nervous to post after reading some other comments about newbies posting only about Keratin...but keep in mind, with so many girls (and guys) out there desperate for a solution to curly/frizzy hair and researching this treatment. By having this site pop up you are going to get some new posters strictly posting about this product (hope that makes sense)...so please keep an open mind to the new people who have joined this site
Just some background..I have been dealing with my curly hair all of my life. I discovered thermal reconditioning back in June 2002 and sine than I have had my hair "TR'd" 9 times, the last time being Sept 2007 My hair is (I guess) a 3A. Very fine and pretty easy to straighten, just hate what happens to my hair in rain and fog. I LOVED thermal reconditioning but it is a real pain for me to drive to LA to have the process done (I am about 4 hours away in the Central Valley, CA) Plus I like a little volume in my hair and don't want it pick straight. I am basically looking to shorten my blow drying time without all of the pulling and tugging with a round brush. My hair style is a short layered shag like Lisa Rinna's. Air drying is never an option since I need to blow dry to style my hair. I only flat iron my bangs...the rest is easily straightened with a round brush and by using Kerastase Ciment Thermique as a leave in. I also use good smoothing shampoos/conditioners, my favorite being Pureology Hydrate and Pureology Nanoworks. I first read about the Keratin treatment in an ad sheet I had gotten from Ulta. We had a new store open locally last week. I have been contemplating on trying a new TR type smoothing treatment but decided to give this a try first. Mostly because of cost and travel. Plus it would be so nice to be able to find some sort of relaxing treatment I can do at home on a "as needed" basis. Well I purchased the treatment today and will give it a try in the morning. I think I will start by doing just the underneath layers to make sure I don't get any weird reaction with my hair color... those results will determine weather I will do the rest of my hair. I will be sure to keep everyone posted on my progress. Thanks everyone for their reviews! Donna
hi again. i just needed to add something that is on my mind so please dont anyone be insulted.
i am not new and have had good(not a miracle) results. but all that is talked about are the negitive reviews, which, by the way, are by just a handful of people too, re posting more negitve comments.if it a positive comment, it is ignored or passed off as someone who works for the company. what works for one person may not work for another.i think to say it "will"damage your hair, it "will" turn it orange... is just as bad as someone who has a fake review.i do not have damage, or any color change at all. just softer, less frizzy hair....and yes, i have been using it for weeks, i think we just need to be fair here. to be so insistant about the damage ect...well to me that also seems a bit fishy. i guess i feel like im being called lier(sp), because i havent had a bad experience. this is not meant to offend, but to give people who may be interested in this product a look at both sides. sam

You know? I was almost agree with you until I realize something..I always state that What Works For You Might Not Work For Me...I posted MY results in good intended for others to have information as well....what if someone that had the same results as I did is also doing a SEARCH on google to find out if a similar case has come up? Information is key.

In What wait is this similar to a FAKE REVIEW? I posted photos of my reviews, I get concern about the general public, I believe in freedom of speech ...so enlighten me.

Yes, You are right Sam2...I will Delete my last posts, to avoid making those who succeed with the treatment uncomfortable as well to the new posters. Thank you for understanding my frustration about my damage.

Good Luck all

Hi there, i had had blonde hair that turned orange from LK too . . . i had salon color correction but it didn't fix it 100%. Per my salon's suggestion, I am using a violet color correcting shampoo and conditioner every third shampoo. This seems to help and after two weeks my color is calming down. The color correction products are not very moisturizing - I mix 50/50 with my normal shampoo and conditioner and it still seems to work. I am using the violet products from Loreal/Artec (purchased at Ulta), but I know there are other brands out there. No good ideas for the dryness though. Good luck! Debtonaire
Hello again!
Well today I started the Keratin process. Before doing anything I went to their web site and watched the video and read everything on their site.
First I washed with their shampoo, sprayed in the Keratin and let it sit for 30 minutes. I had planned on just doing the underneath layers as a test but at the last minute I decided to just do my whole head. The smell is no worse than other chemical treatments I have had in the past. It's only for 48 hours so in the big scheme of things I can live with it. Then I blow dried with a round brush until my hair was completely dry. Next I used my chi 1" flat iron and using clips I bought at Ulta, I worked my way section by section until all of my hair was flat ironed straight. I also have a 1/4" hai twig flat iron my husband used to help me with the back of my head..that is where my layers are the shortest.
My hair is SO soft and my color is the same as before I started..My hair is colored light brown with blonde highlights. I have no orange or brassiness. My hair is SUPER soft and reminds me of how it feels right after I get my TR. Since my hair is fine, right now it is extremely straight/flat and a bit greasy because of the solution. Whenever I get TR (or now this treatment) I always plan on being home until my first wash since the solutions always make my hair a bit greasy. The true test will be after my first wash on Thursday. Hopefully this treatment will make my hair easier to blow dry and help with keeping my hair straight in humidity..right now we are getting pounded with rain so it will be interesting how my hair holds up.. Keeping my fingers crossed..

I just wanted to comment on SAM's post cuz it was similar to something that was on my mind. It seems kinda sad to me that every new member now to post here has to begin by defending themselves because otherwise someone is going to call them out on working for the company. It's like a witch hunt. I understand the annoyance and fear involved with people just trying to market their product on here, however it doesn't seem right that now any one who is new is automatically fake if they had good results. My results weren't horrible...just not worth the money to me but all hair is different so I'm sure people exist out there that this does work wonders for. The first time I commented here (way back when ) was because I wanted to praise a product I loved and stumbled across this site from google. No one accused me of being a "fake" poster or working for the company. SAM does have a point that perhaps we all need to be a little less quick to judge the newbies who've had good results. Can't we all just get along? hehe...

AphroDiva, your reviews were very helpful and I hope your hair is getting better! I didn't experience the damage you did, but I understand all too well the frustration when something wrecks your hair

And yes, I really do enjoy the smileys.
3a on top and sides/3b underneath...lots of hair

I was doing a search on the internet (trying to find a deal on $ on this product) as it is pricey- no luck yet on any major savings!) ... I came across this web-site! Very Fun- for us Curly Girls & Fella's.
I just had to chime in as I have to say I am entering week 4 now since I first went through the treatment of LK & my hair is still more manageable, less frizzy- by far, & a lot less tangles. I have 3C hair & have suffered with Frizzy Tangled hair all my life-(I'm 39 & tires of Frizzy knots)... I'm sure everyone who reads this knows how annoying living with the daily hair fight can be { I live in the NW- rain & humidity is an every day problem.} I was quite leary of using this product & e-mailed the company , viewed their website, asked as may questions as possible before I 'went for it.'
I was concerned as I did not want stick straight hair & had to endure the 2 day wait after applying LK & Flat-Ironing to set in. But I threw on a cute hat & enjoyed no knots & running my fingers thru my ends- a never happens thing for me. The temporary change was a little fun- but still not me. As soon as 48 hours hit- I washed out the LK treatment product & used their approved shampoo & conditioner (comes w/ starter kit.) Then I sprayed in the leave in conditioner (also comes in starter kit)... I wanted big soft curls & was able to achieve them easily with no frizz. I blow dried out with a ceramic curl brush & defussier ( top third of hair - crown of my head)-no flat iron needed. I scrunched up my bottom 2/3 of my hair - curly - & frizz free (nice); I then secured the bottom 2/3 hair with a big clamp. Then I did ceramic hot rollers on the top crown area- (fast setting- 5 mintes only) & out came shiny , smooth - big curls that my tight curls would never allow before using this product - ( I have tried over & over prior to trying the LK to get this look always to be disappointed.) I found if I hot rollered all over my head- it was too flat & a little less body than I like (probably am used to.) I love the end result .
In all fairness I have never tried any other major treatments prior to this product ever before (no chemical treatments or anything like that)- so I can't copare this to something I have never tried before. Just always trying new- leave in conditioners, hair serum's, etc...! I will buy this product again (think I will have to reapply in about 2 weeks- but will wait till I can see & feel that it is time- so far not much different than when I first did it.)
*** I was at Ulta a couple days ago & picked up a new product line by LoReal- that is Sulfate free- (pretty sure this is what LK says that most products have in it & will make your hair go back to way it was before their treatment faster if you don't stick to their (very expensive ) products. I bought the (LoReal) shampoo & conditioner (nice sized tubes for a fraction of LK products $) & they have a leave in condtioner as well. The LoReal products are also good on Color treated hair- which I do Color my hair to keep it a deep natural looking brown (I like it a shade darker than my real color.) If this works (so far after 1 shampoo & condtioner wash... hair looks & feels just as good as with the LK products) I will just buy the LK starter kit every other month or so & use these LoReal products in between. I still might purchase the LK leave in condtioner- it sprays in & leaves hair shiny & feelin great! Just trying to save some $ & Look FaNtAbUlOuS too!!! Hope this is helpful for someone!

Thank You!
~Sandy

Say what you mean and mean what you say.
hi all,

i've gone thru all the reviews abt this new product on this site but cudn't find answer to my queries.
I'm an Indian girl with wavy and frizzy hair, have got much frizz at top a halo of frizziness
my hairs r not thin but the count is sumwat not much which turns volumne into them after wash........its hard to manage any style beacuse dey don't lie flat.......i flat iron my hair twice a week after every wash so that i can keep them open wid manageable looks.

i also have grey hair problem so i do henna instead
of color.
i wanted to know is it safe to use LK treatment for henna treated hair? Can i use henna after taking up d treatment also?
i've never done any chemical treatment and once visited Ulta salon fr re-bonding(straightening) but have been told NO because of henna in my hair....dats wat makes major concern to me for using LK!!!

i'm not lukng for dead straight hair result but i'm definitely lukng fr soft, frizz free and straight hair to an extent with some definition to it.

Please let me know your feedbacks as i'm really lukng forward using dis treatment to give my hair better look.
This is my first post. I tried LK about two weeks ago after seeing it in a magazine. I waited a week after having my hair colored before using it. I think there is a definite improvement to my hair, but I'm not sure I want to continue to spend the money on their products. My hair is somewhere between a 3a/3b. I've alway fought my curls/frizz and have alternated betweekn blowing it out and letting it go curly. When it's curly, I feel like I have no style or shape to my hair. Because I live in NC, I really have to fight my hair in the summer because of our high humidity.

Can you buy the treatment alone or do you always have to buy the starter kit? This might make my decision for me. I have to continue to spend $69 just for the treatment and a few "travel" sized shampoo/conditioner products, I don't know if I'll continue.
As promised I am here to give my review of this product after completing the treatment exactly how it stated to do it (see below). I have changed my profile pic to show the before and after photo together. As you can see the curls/kinks are all still there, as is the frizz, although it feels way softer and a bit less poofy and I suspect it would be a bit easier to blow out and flatiron, however, I was looking for a nicer curly look with less poof and frizz. I have to say, it took over 2 hours for my hairdresser (best friend) to do the process and the cost of the treatment and the other products were high and if you have to repeat this every 4-6 weeks, I am not impressed. I previously have had her put a gentle perm solution on and comb through straight and leave on for 20 mins and I got similar if not identical results....I only need that done every 3 months and she only charges me $50. So based upon the economics, the time it took and the disappointing results (I really had high hopes for this) I will not be doing this process again, back to the gentle perm solution combed through 4 times a year.

I do not work for the company either. I was just curious about the reviews for this product. I'm on NC.com all the time, I've just never really posted in the forums until now. I saw the ad for LK in InStyle and was immediately curious about it, googled it and it brought me here. Thanks for the research and info, but don't accuse people of working for the company when they are just curious and trying to research a product for themselves. A lot of the posts on this thread sound legit and are helpful.
hi there
was out of town for a week or so and am just now checking back in.,
AGAIN, i do NOT WORK FOR LK
take it or leave it it...this treatment cuts down my style time by more than 100%. my hair is not straighter. it is just easier and faster to make it look good.
i am hoping to buy just the treatment without the other products for maintenance.
p.s. i am in my 40's, and have triedEVERY product. This product has cut down my "getting ready" time without frizz. To me, this is priceless

i have to say that i am offended by many of the comments here. as a woman who has tried everything to LOVE my hair and is very picky, i would rather not blog here. my sincere enthusiasm has been successfully squelched.
p.s.s. i would work for LK if they had a job open!
