*~curly to wavy~*

How can I permanently straighten my hair from being 3A/2C curly to 2B wavy? I used Phytorelaxer at home, but I didn't leave it on long enough. I want to go to a salon and get it done, but I'm afraid they will completely straighten my hair or fry it. Does anyone know of a salon in northern New Jersey that is good with relaxers?
My hair is currently like this texture but curlier (it's really thick and uneven-slightly wavy in some spots and 3A curly in others)

And I want it like this:

Any help/suggestions? Thanks in advance:happy3:

Just saw this. I have an appt with my hair dresser who u trust very much in March...she plans to use a chemical...and set it on larger rollers to loosen out where I feel it's too tight...and curl up parts that don't quite. So I'm looking for exactly what u are asking for..I'll post back with results

I also was looking in YouTube..and I saw something called a Gina Curl...which seems to loosen based on rods...and also something called a Re4mer...that is kinda like it.

I will warn you that while many hairstylists will encourage you to perm your hair with large rollers it does not work. I have had this done twice to try to get wavy hair and it has only damaged my hair and made it look worse.

Really? That's disappointing. How damaged did u end up? Did u have to cut it off?

Well...I bit the bullet at got my hair processed. I love it. My canopy is waaaay calmer...it's looser and I'm sure will be easier to comb. I can't wet it for a few days...so we'll see.

What I usually do...

If I want my hair to be looser, I just tie the top with a banana clip, and dry my hair. That helps straighten out the canopy of my hair. (Ever notice how the girls in the pictures have stick straight tops?) And while I dry, I brush with the Denman (to help form clumps and loosen curl) and periodically pull down the curl (not OUT of my head!:laughing6:) and sometimes defuse "downwards". Key word: downwards. You want to try to loosen curl. This helps me get 2a sometimes 2a/b waves, instead of my normal 2c waves. Not sure if it will work for you as your curl pattern is stronger, but it's worth giving a shot, considering you don't have to use chemicals with my method.

Good luck!

Anyway, Walk with your chin up every day, there are so many women who would kill for big, curly, sexy hair.

What I do is when my hair is dry (air dry or with hair dryer) I brush it so it gets puffy and then use a curling iron. It gets big curls and looks natural.

It just MIGHT work...

Well, I think she's searching for a more natural way of loosening her curl. (Natural as in heat free.) I agree with you on the brushing thing though, even though it causes major frizz, it does loosen your curl pattern. :toothy10: And if you do know of a way to make it go away without wetting your hair (wetting or dampening it will make it go back to it's original curl pattern) than more power to you!

I suggest using second day hair tips (other than spraying with water) to "touch up" on the frizz created by the brush. (I know, you probably think that all brushes are evil.:evil5:) I know you're probably scared of taking a brush to your curls, but it's not going to make crazy unmanageable poof, unless you don't use a frizz fighting product on dry hair. Good luck!
