A CHI does probably half the damage -or less- than a regular iron does. You can't say that flat ironing doesn't damage at all because you ARE straightening your hair. If you have fine hair, it might fry your hair due to high heat- resulting in breakage. If you have thicker hair in healthy condition, there will be less damage because it needs a higher heat setting to straighten anyway. Heat protectors probably do prevent damage, but I don't like them because of the sizzling noise and most of them are not CG friendly. HTH
