Looking for a curl-friendly stylist in Toronto area

Hi all,

Don't know if anyone can help but my very curly, thick hair desperately needs help and I don't have a stylist in this town! If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful!

Thanks,
Anna

I've never been but I've heard great things about Jonathan Torch at his salon in TO - you can check out his web site at www.frizzoff.com He specializes in curly hair and has a "tunnel" method of cutting it.

hey bananacurls! Not sure if you're downtown or not, here are a few suggestions. I have extremely thick curly hair and have had a hard time finding a good hairdresser. I currently go to a woman by the name of "roxanne" at Shag salon in yorkville. Their telephone # is 416-934-1817. I found her to be quite good and the salon is stunning (glass of wine with your haircut!).I know that david hillis at yonge and eglinton is supposed to be great, he's a friend of a friends and I've heard raves from every direc tion. Hopefully this is of help! Good luck and let me know the outcome!

I go to Jonathan Torch's salon. It's called The Cutting Crew and it's in the TD Centre. The number there is (416)362-1068 He also teaches classes to stylists on Thursday evenings and he's always looking for models. I think that it's about $10 to have your hair cut or highlighted in a class but you have to book about 3 weeks in advance. Good Luck!

If you want your hair to look less "big" then you could go to Jonathan Torch but I don't like the pictures of women that he's cut because their hair looks so flat and lifeless.

I go to David Hillis at Yonge north of Eglinton and he's always been marvellous. He also has a woman at his salon who specializes in curls (she's also a curlyhead and knows about this site!). Her name is Alannah and she's marvellous. After years of using David, I'm moving over to her because she knows curls so well.

The number for David Hillis salon is 416-480-9194.

I can also tell you that he has two marvellous aestheticians and if you want colour, David auditions each of his colourists really carefully before he hires them. (I've been following David around for 18 years, so I know a bit about his methods)

Good luck!

Thanks so much for everyone's help! I'll let you know what the results are once I finally get in for an appointment somewhere.

You've been great!
