TextureMedia Inc., links in signatures and other clarifications

Hi y'all --

I have not been responsive to activity in the Feedback thread. I apologize to you, CurlTalkers, as well as the mods. Complaints of unpleased CurlTalkers were left to fester and I left the mods hanging. Not a fun place to be for either of y'all.

First, I wanted to clear up some possible misunderstandings about NaturallyCurly's management. The company has had the same CEO for several years now; there have been no changes there. The co-founders are still involved (Michelle sits across from me and I talk to Gretchen all the time lol) and we're still quite a small company. No, we haven't been bought out and we're not being run by a big conglomerate. The title "TextureMedia Inc." was our way of organizing all our online spaces (CurlTalk, NC, CurlStylist, CurlMart, CurlyNikki) under one "branded" roof because the same people work on all those communities.

I'm the CurlTalk admin and the marketing assistant/social media manager of TextureMedia.

The CurlTalk mods volunteer their time to uphold CurlTalk's rules and guidelines. We should cite which rule/guideline we are using to take a line of action. All that sort of communication must take place in the form of a private message. As you can imagine, we can't make exceptions to rules, as that would be a nightmare to keep tabs on. Please understand that there are less than a handful of us, and thousands of posts. What may be perceived as inconsistent moderation is just the fact that we haven't seen a post yet. That is why we appreciate it when someone brings something (privately) to our attention.

Feel free to email me (evelyn@naturallycurly.com) or PM me if you take issue with moderation to your account. Please do not go to bat for another CurlTalker -- I won't discuss another person's scenario with you. Please do not bash another CurlTalker or a moderator in an attempt to plead a case.

Gotta say it one mo' gin lol: a CurlTalk thread is not the place to go in on a moderator or CurlTalker. Again, I apologize to any user who has felt attacked and I didn't support them. I apologize to the mods for not showing my face so to speak and weighing in on heated discussions.

Rules and guidelines are always subject to change as new problems arise. There is no way I can anticipate every situation that would call for a hard & fast rule. We'd like to think "be nice, y'all." is the only rule an online forum would need, but as time goes on, communities grow, and we notice gaps in the guidelines. Rules are added to prevent such problems from happening again. The creation of the rules since CurlTalk's beginnings in 1998 is truly an example of the phrase "ya live and learn".

About siggies:
Our guidelines state:
DON'T ADVERTISE. Please help keep our community "commercial free." Never post any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising or promotional items, junk mail or "spam." Soliciting may include promoting a home business, charity drives, items for auction, etc., as well as information such as a contact address or web URL.

If the link profits you in any way (store, family business, amazon link, blog, youtube channel) please do not post it in your signature. If you'd like to answer somebody's post with a link of that sort, you can always PM them.

I love the interwebs, y'all. Love them! I am part of many groups, social media networks, etc. I love connecting with others around the world, CurlTalk being one of those places. I feel I have to go on the record saying I do not find any problem with starting an group or forum outside of CurlTalk and letting your CT friends know about it. But once in your new online location, please do not return to simply to continue arguments and the like. You are welcome here any time, otherwise.

Our guidelines state "Be Courteous." We all know "snark" and tone translates different when we type it out vs speak. My moderation as well as that of the mods is up to our discretion. But that's why the "warning" private message you may receive is a good place to maturely talk things out with me or a mod.

I realize this note is all over the place, but I wanted to address some random things I've seen on the board that are frustrating some of you. Hopefully this cleared some things up. As always, your constructive suggestions are welcome. I don't necessarily have all the answers, and look to you to help me manage CurlTalk.

forgive the typos -- it's past midnight

-Eve

Hi everyone! I'd like to offer a gentle reminder that we can't post copyrighted material. Please don't post an entire blog entry or the like from another website. If you find something great on another site, please just post a link, instead of copying the material.

Thank you!
