One more question and then I promise I won't come back unless I have to!
Do you all feel its appropriate to ship products in large enevelopes? I feel that boxes are much sturdier since these are usually liquids/creams but then I have to charge more for shipping. What's the general protocol?

It really depends on the product, as well as how loosely it fits in the envelope. (Too loose or too tight could cause a problem.) I've had many products shipped to me in envelopes and I've shipped a few myself -- haven't had any accidents yet. Boxes *are* a better idea, though, just to be safe. I try to use them when I can.
The biggest issue is taping up the caps of the bottles and jars themselves. It's crucial to prevent leakage. Putting the product in a ziploc bag is also a good idea, especially for anything that could melt (butters) or be runny.

Good mrng all...to just get right to it...I think seller's & swapper's should opt to exchange pics of said product that's trying to be sold or swapped & to also ask the very necessary questions: (1) Is ur product old (how long have u had it), (2) Is it moldy in any kind of way & (3) Does it have hair in it?
I'm in the process of swapping with another NC poster, I just sent her pics of the product I'm swapping & hopefully she will inturn send me pics of her product. I think overall U may get a better picture of what ur looking @ may relieve u of headaches dwn the road!...Just a suggestion...

CombomCurlz, pics sounds like a good idea. I know its possible to lose a hair in a product, but I def wouldn't send one with any in it. And if its old or moldy, that is inexcusable. If its moldy, the person should have to face serious repercussions.

WOW!!! You know, I was a little afraid of swapping when I first came on this sight. I was afraid both ways - me giving my money for stuff and someone stiffing me, but I was also afraid that I would sell someone something and they unfairly blast me. Well what do you know.  Because I've done so many transactions both ways, I started to get comfortable cause I had only run into great people so I started to think "Hey, there's nothing to this!" I guess it was only a matter of time.
First off - you KNOW you are deadazz wrong!!! I have NOT logged into this sight since I sold you your stuff cause I have been super busy at work.
Second - I sold you that stuff for DUMB cheap, which you failed to mention and I didn't know it was the old formula cause I actually got it from a swap, tried it and didn't like it. All you had to do was communicate that to me. But I don't see a PM about that at all.
Third - How the hell do you wind up on the complaints board AND the swapper recommendations board??? I've been on the swapper recommendations board MANY.MANY times. Yet for some reason, you have a problem. Could it be that you didn't communicate with me? I only have two PMs from you and you're just inquiring about when you will receive your package. Nothing about hair in the bottle, WHICH THERE WAS NOT, old packaging, or old formula. Before you try and ruin someone's reputation, why don't you communicate with them first??
Fourth - I am not a business. I have a life outside of this swap board. If you can't handle that it might take someone a few days to respond to your request, you don't need to swap here.
I am disgusted, but not surprised. There is a ton more I could say, but as I'm typing I realize there's no point. However, I do know that from now on, I'm only swapping with people that frequent the 4a board that I KNOW. Have a nice life. Or start a back and forth. Whatever makes you feel better. But I'm done. Whateva.

you know NubianCoils I wont go back and forth with you, but I clearly sent you personal emails and PMs before I recieved the package. I had no response from you for 12 days...what was the point of Pming you again..to get no respose???? What did you want me to think??? I dont know when your going to log in this account..for all I knew you didnt respond here OR your personal email account!!! How am I suppose to know you didnt steal my money..just wait and see!! I think not! I recieved the package well over a week later after the emails were sent and NOW you respond because I posted the complaint!! If your selling products keep in contact with the person whos money you've accepted!!! POINT BLANK!!! If your to busy to do that then dont sell!!!! And YES the products were OLD and YES there was HAIR in them!!!! As far as mentioning that it was Afroveda and the price was unnessecary!!! If I paid $1 for it that would still be wasted money!!! And how could you not have know that they were old..that packageing has not been in circulation for some time..and pictures and ingredients are all over this hair board and the internet!!! So as far as I'm concered the complaint still stands!!! AND yes I did update my complaint and mention when I recieved the package!!! Seems as though you skipped that part!!! It only takes one bad transaction to end up on the complaint boards.....so heres yours! Im happy for the ladies who have had success with you but this one was not up to par!! I wont respond to this again!

Shipping w/ care...Don't Swap/Buy from boingboing!!!!
I think we need to make sure to let swappers know that they should mail products out in cushion mailers or boxes with cushioning...I received a product from "boingboing" & the top was cracked w/ the product spilling over into the plastic bag, in a plain U.S.P.S envelope.
Needless to say I was irritated by this because I send out items to other posters the way
"I WOULD" want to receive an item, I tried to salvage as much product as I could (runny product, NOT thick at all)...It just took the excitement out of the swap.
Just a suggestion moving fwd guyz...

That's terrible. I have only sold products but I just bought my first one so :fingers crossed: I use an OD amount of packing usually. I use zip locs, bubble wrap, packing tape and a padded envelope or a box. It seems like maybe we could use some swapper "rules."

she's right! i had someone (not from here) send me a JAR of kccc in a damn bubble wrap envelope....FROM CANADA! 95% of it spilled out and i had to scrape it back into the jar, mind you i still have it with bits of daggone paper inside of it. i was too through.

I guess common sense isn't so common...
The package "boingboing" sent me didn't have delivery confirmation (NOTHING) so I guess if it were lost the reply would have been "oh well to bad, so sad"...
& in the package I sent her, I included on the side a sample of KBB's hair cream...this is what I get for being generous...

I e-mailed "boingboing" regarding this, she has apologized & offered to send me another product...I replyed " thank you for the prompt reply- "ok, what product do u have in mind?" This was on Wednesday, I still have yet to hear from her & she has since logged onto NC & has read my PM...sooo I guess she re-tracted on that offer, so she NOT only has proven to be Incompetent but she's also a LIAR (can't stand behind her word) but it's OK...I came thru on MY part!!!
No more swapping with newbies or posters that just want to jump on here & swap, so the excuse won't be "This was my 1st time swapping"...only known seasoned posters on the GOOD List moving fwd cause ur taking a chance with that...

Do Not Swap With boingboing!!!
I have been as patient as I could possibly be, but at this point, I'm hoping that I can spare another curly my bad experience.
I responded to boingboing's post for a product back BEFORE Christmas. She stated that she would send it out that Saturday because of the holiday and the bad weather. I was fine with that and asked that she send it Priority and provide delivery confirmation since I paid more than enough for shipping costs. I further asked that she let me know when she actually sent it. I got a cryptic response, but didn't think too deep on it at the time.
Fast forward 2 weeks and a few unanswered PM's later, I get someone else's products. No delivery confirmation, no Priority shipment.... just the wrong products that even had some hairs on them! I found the owner of the products I received and spent more money correcting her mistake. The correct owner says she never received anything from her. So I don't even know if my product has been sent out at all.
After sending a message last night, she responded saying she hadn't been on and claims her boyfriend made the error. She claims she sent my product to the other buyer and asked if I wanted a different product. I gave 24 hours to fix the situation with my ORIGINAL product or send my money back to my Paypal.
As of this post, no response and no money back.
Again, don't swap or purchase with boingboing. You do so at your own risk.

Ekua, if you used paypal, couldn't you get a refund... then again, the refund process is difficult through paypal. I had an issue on ebay, involved paypal in the dispute and lost. Either way, I, too, am quite hesitant these days in swapping or selling.
I don't know but I don't think people are as honest as they should be, or have good intentions when swapping/selling. From now on, I think I will just purchase from the vendor. It's safer.

Another thing...if you're new to swapping, don't try to swap until you have a full understanding of how it works. It's not that hard to figure out how it works. But if it is hard, then don't swap until you get it.
Again, I hate to sound mean, but really, folks need to grow up.
Note: "You" means anybody.
Why would you send products in an "unprotected" state? I HATE to receive boxes, with spilled products inside.
Why would you send products with your "hairs" included in the jar? Why? That's triflin'. I don't want MY hairs in my products, let alone yours.
Why would you send a product, without checking to make sure it hasn't separated, doesn't have mold growing in it, and hasn't dried up? That's nasty.
Once you take someone's money/product, you're obligated to send the items you agreed to send...in a timely manner. Why is that not clear?
Computer failure, family emergencies, etc., don't excuse your responsibility to communicate with folks who've purchased/swapped with you. Let them know what's going on. Most people are reasonable. If you have to ask a friend to check your emails and reply to any inquiries, do that.
Honestly, I don't know what's wrong with people.
