Swapper Complaints Thread (aka: BAD swaps!)

Like Tree18Likes

This might turn out to be a book but bear with me. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt however I feel the need to report this unethical behavior. During the summer I sold a product to SummerRuby. After about a week or two after the sale, she reported to me that she didn't get the product. I thought that odd because I noticed the day before that the product I sold to her she placed on the swap board--same product and both 85% full. And I noticed that the day she contacted me for the refund she deleted her selling post so that you could no longer see what she was selling. I was very suspicious, however I didn't get a delivery confirmation so I felt I had to take her for her word and I refunded her money within minutes of getting her message.

A little bit later she contacted me about some glycerine I had for swap. I emailed her back and told her that I was not going to send anything more to her address due to the "lost item". I also had this glycerine and other products for swap on CurlyNikki. Another girl contacted about some items and long story short it felt like the person played bait and switch with me until I finally did a swap with her for the glycerine. The swap was ultimately okay, but again I was a little annoyed that I kind of got the run around, but I was like whatever.

A few days ago SummerRuby contacted me again about the J&B I had on the board and I again told her that I wasn't sending anything to her address (trying to be polite). She sent an icon message that showed her disappointment and I assumed that it had ended. This morning I got a message on the CurlyNikki board about swapping my conditioner for a person's shampoo. This person goes by Jaz7891. Long story short, she decides she no longer wants do the swap but she noticed I posted the J&B on another site and she would like to swap for the J&B instead. Again I felt like she was playing bait and switch with me. I even commented to a friend that I thought SummerRuby and Jaz were in cahoots together because they were both odd transactions and they were both interested ultimately in the same products. I decided to sell to Jaz and the email address I get from paypal is from SummerRuby.

She knowingly tried to fool me into doing a transaction with her twice even though she knew I did not wish to do any more business with her. I feel this is very unethical and felt I needed to let someone know. I do not know if she ever got my original item and lied about it or not, however I do know she has tried to play me at least twice and I thought the swap community should know about it. Please beware.

On 10/01/10 I sent a payment of 10.00 to Lydyybuggin76 for some Anita Grant Rhassoul that was posted in here for sale, along with a few other items.

It is not a month later and I still have not received the product, or even a message from her regarding the matter. I sent her a pm about a week or so ago (don't know exactly as I erased my outgoing box to save space)

She has not answered the pm and has not logged in since 10/03/2010. Since it is only 10 bucks and I sent it as a gift (cause strangely enough I have purchased from her before, everything was fine) there is no recovery, but still I feel some kinda way.

Surprising coming from someone who has been on the board since 2005. Well a small lesson learned I guess.....

I still want my rhassoul though

I've had alot of people ask me to send payment as a gift instead of as goods because they want to avoid the Paypal fees. I've done it because I understand not wanting to pay the fees, but if it means someone can't lodge a complaint and get their $ back when they don't get their goods, that's not cool. I'm sorry that happened to you; I guess I've learned that next time someone asks me to pay as a gift, I'm saying "no."

People can work in the fee into their selling price if they are concerned about paying Paypal's fees. Maybe an administrator could post a request to swappers to not ask for payment as gifts? IDK.

Also the paypal fee is negligible especially for a small swap, so it's no big. I think you can also choose the "payment owed" option and the person doesn't get charged--I'm not sure about this though. And don't fees only apply to premium members? Or am I dreaming?

I feel like if I'm going to get less than $5 or $6 its kinda not worth it. Spending money on packing materials and whatnot...

I prefer paying them 3% service charge on a PayPal payment for the convenience of the automatic label--if I don't input the data, if a mistake is made, I didn't do it.

When you get a PayPal payment, a little "button" comes up that says print label. The label already has your address and the buyer's address. You fill in the "service," weight and day you're shipping. You pay for the label (funds come out of your PayPal account) and it lets you print the shipping label.

You can mail it from any postal box. Several of my local post offices have lobbies that are open 24/7--you can mail it there anytime whether the post office is open or not. I mail enough, that all of the clerks at my local post office know me. I can just come up and leave my packages on the counter.

@MUCC, yes, just way everything before hand in the actual packaging you will use and then use that weight when you are entering information for the shipment. I don't buy packaging, I save any boxes that I get with orders and reuse them and I have TONS of popcorn from previous orders. So it works out to be not much more than what I charge for shipping in my swaps.

You can drop postage paid packages at the post office, you will never have to stand in line at all
Thanks ladies! I don't do many swaps, so all I have is used small envelopes from makeup I've ordered online. When I have to mail something in a box or large envelope, I have to buy the box/envelope. I also can't imagine being able to just go up and leave the package at the counter. I live in NYC and there is always a wild line at every post office unless its late at night. I will look into the postal box though. I still feel like its an extra step (weighing beforhand) that I'd rather not do since I never make much profit and hardly ever swap. But I guess that's what ppl want. Thanks again for all the info, folks!
Outting/complaining about myself! I just want to make this as transparent as possible so no one thinks I'm a thief!

I shipped Boots Curl Creme to JLeighs on 11/27....or I thought I did. I always send stuff USPS Priority with delivery confirmation. The packaged should have arrived by 11/29. But this time I accidentally put it in a MEDIUM box but selected SMALL postage.....I've never done this before. Today I discovered my mistake with the help of JLeighs, and the package is now on it's way with the right postage.

Sorry about this JLeighs! Again, I've never had a bad swap or sell before. I blame being distracted here as final exams come up....won't happen again.

ETA:....and it finally arrives (4 days late).
