Default products / supplements for thinning hair

hey all,

can anyone recommend any success on hair supplements or products for thinning hair? I have tried phyto vitamins , multi vitamins and keratise ampoules, and biotin ampoules but nothing seems to work.

help, please! I even went to the dermotologist and all she told me I can try is rogaine but after reading the side effects I wasn't too impressed. Women claim to get facial hair. aghhh

So, I purchased Andrew lessman's health skin and nails. It has 3200mcg of biotin along with other products. I'll keep you all posted as soon as I start taking it. They are available on HSN.

ciao for now

I'm going to be adding more magnesium and Iodoral(iodine) to my daily routine. Along with plenty of protein in my diet, I hope that these minerals will help my whole system including my hair.

It's my understanding that you can get hair growth if you're not careful with the application of Rogain. Example, you apply to your scalp, massage in then touch your face. that can cause facial hair.

I started Rogain and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Default I'm going bald too!

Nothing, I say nothing has worked. I can't even use the clip-in hairpiece because my hair is so thin there's not enough real hair for the fake hair to clip on to. I spent $1,400 on this, and I really can't use it. i need help.
I already take a ton of supplements in large quantities. They're probably not working due to malabsorption from my Crohn's disease. So I non-nutritional help. Thanks.

I used to take Fish Oil and Biotin and I really saw a difference in my hair like in about 7 months of taking them. When I stoped taking them, my hair got weaker and even more thin. I'm taking them again and hoping that it will make my hair grow like before. So maybe you can try it if you like it.

Curly Colombiana, I must agree with you. I've been taking fish oil regularly. My hair is fuller, shinier and is growing like a weed. I used to lose big clumps of hair in the shower and since taking it It's less than half the amount..I'm planning on taking biotin as well.

I hope it works....I've been thinking of getting the Rogaine also. Does it go on like a regular shampoo or do you use it as a treatment. I colour my hair also, do you think it will strip colour?

The Rogaine is a treatment. It's available in a liquid or a mousse. You part your hair and apply it directly to the scalp, all over.
I use the men's version and apply it once a day.

I color my hair also and haven't noticed it stripping any color. The product only touches the roots.

I read in a Weight Watchers magazine about a product called Keranique but can't find much information on it other than it contains Minoxidil 2%. I also read that Saw Palmetto is recommended.

I'm going to go try Rogaine. I've tried all sorts of supplements and while they don't make the situation worse, there has been no regrowth.

I haven't researched ayurvedic herbs too much in depth, so take this with a grain of salt, but I heard that bhringaraj oil was really good for regrowth for those with thinning hair. My boyfriend, who's just starting to get some thinning, has been using bhringaraj oil for a few months and he says that he's gotten a lot of growth since he started using it. He just applies it like you would any other oil, and he's done some research on the oil himself (yes, I've infected him with my hair-care-awareness ), and he says that it apparently contains the same chemical that's used in Rogain, which is partially just SD Alcohol 40 (a drying alcohol) anyway. That said, I'm not trying to deter anyone away from Rogain or anyway. If want to try it, by all means, do! I'm just putting a few other suggestions out there.

Where does your boyfriend get his oil? I'm definitely interested in ayurvedic herbs and would prefer that in place of Rogaine. I will definitely look into it. Thanks.

Is the Rogaine you're using 2% or 5%. I have read that the 5% does work better for females.

I'm using the 5% once a day. A poster here said her dermatologist said females can use the 5% once a day instead of the 2%.... and that's what I'm doing. She also recommends the mousse. Let me say the liquid is a pain in the butt and a pain to apply.
My one complaint is that my scalp itches like CRAZY a few hours after application. I guess the itching is ok cuz the scratching brings more blood supply to the scalp.
