Change of season = change in hair needs
Just curious, is anyone else noticing their curls acting, feelings and laying differently right now with the transitioning weather?
Lately, I think my hair is actually craving moisture...probably due to the rising humidity. Today I conditioned with Giovanni SAS and I used AO GPB condish as a leave-in...it helped balance things out.
On another note, I'm thinking of adding a silicone product back in my hair routine to help with my frizz and lack of shine. I don't know about the rest of you, but having fine hair makes my hair look lusterless. I'm not sure what cone product I'll use yet because some cone products weigh down my hair. Any of you fine-stranded gals have a lightweight product you use specifically to add shine and reduce frizz?

I feel your pain! Dews are changing here as I move through Spring. Some days I feel like I'm starting all over again. Last summer I had my HG routine, but apparently the more I go down the CG path, my properties are changing. I feel like I'm always plotting what I'm going to do with my hair. It's annoying!
For example the past couple times I styled I got away with just using CIAB. My curl pattern is strong enough, so this has been working (leaves my hair super soft, but not flat). I always thought I needed the heavy gels for the curls, but apparently as of lately that's not the case! My hair doesn't do well with a LI & I can't seem to avoid the crunch with most gels.
Have you tried CIAB? I ask because I've never had a product zap the frizz like it does. Even when it's combined with other products it works really well.
Ok, I'm glad I found your post. I feel better now that I vented.

I'm sorry, but what does CIAB stand for?
I haven't been using much less protein, but I have up'ed my moisture intake by conditioning with either of the following deep conditioners pretty much everyday:
-Renpure Organics Amazing Miracle Deep penetrating reconstructor.
-L'Oreal EverSleek Reparative smoothing conditioner.
I like the Renpure CO better.

I only use this occasionally, but this is a cone-taining conditioner that (for me) has a sort of curl-cream effect: Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine 3 minute masque. It has A-cone which doesn't build up if I shampoo occasionally. I take a teeny bit, rub it in my palms so it's spread around and a little tackier, then scrunch away or smooth it in. Shiny! Lowers frizz. Must use with a gel if you want hold.
I have wavy curls and they're very shiny - but low porosity, and that's an important part of the puzzle. And I use a lot of protein and panthenol and avoid too much conditioner because it seems to just build up, making my hair dull and with less spring. If I cowash with rich, creamy conditioners, my hair is dull as a board. Another important puzzle piece.
I am crazy, crazy about Aussie Instant freeze gel, and they make a mousse too. It's light, it leaves my hair bouncy and clumpy (I break up the clumps or I get the "my hair's too thin for these clumps" look). I use it over Flaxseed gel to which I've added Colorful Neutral Protein Filler from Sally's. This is a super-economic mix, to be sure. These are totally "CG."

Thanks for the product reviews. I've actually been curious about eh Garnier sleek & shine masque. So instead of using it as a rinse-out masque, IAgirl, you're actually leaving it in? That's not a bad idea. I do that with the Renpure CO described in my previous message.
I've tried the aussie gel, and get good results with it, but it's a bit heavy for my fine hair. I didn't have any luck with flaxseed gel.
Could you please tell me more about this Colorful Neutral Protein Filler? Is it a conditioner? A cream? A gel?

Yes, I used the Sleek & Shine Masque as a leave-in. It's really creamy and thick and you must rub it in your palms so it gets that "drier" feel - then it will distribute really well when you scrunch or whatever you do without giving you heavy hair. You use far, far less than you would as a rinse-out.
Colorful (brand) Neutral Protein Filler comes in a bottle from Sally's. It's a liquid containing keratin and wheat protein. There's a preservative and a slight fragrance, but that's it. It's truly watery in consistency. It's great to add to conditioners or gels if you want protein in them.
Have you tried the Aussie Instant Freeze mousse? I'm going to. It's main holding ingredient is polyquat-4 and that particular one allegedly does not build up, but has very good hold and frizz-control. I kind of like mousse because it's so light and "dry" but I haven't found one with the fabled right hold (no ramen hair, please).

Thanks for the info. I have not tried the Aussie mousse. Mousse hasn't worked so well for me in years past. About 4 years ago I used Tressemme's curl mousse, and it worked good enough, but I don't care for the 'crispiness' that mousse gives me. I probably just needed to SOTC, but I didn't know that back in the day. One reason I got away from mousse was it was a bit drying.

Weather does change our hair. I still havent mastered it. Lol. Im going to arizona next week and am kinda worried about my hair since I have no experience with that type of humidity.
Frizz is usually caused by a lack of moisture. I remember that you straighten so your hair needs even more moisture and protein. I dt and pt once a week. My fine hair loves protein- all types.
A lack of moisture contributes to that dull lackluster look. You will be fighting an uphill battle because damage can change your porosity. Two steps foward and 1 step back- thats what it can feel like. I have a section of my hair that doesnt respond like the rest of my hair all because that section is more damaged and the porosity is low.
I condition and protein treat this area more but since the porosity is low it doesnt respond like the rest.
I highly recommend the Live Curly Live Free book by struttswife. Its amazing and incredibly helpful.
