My hair is thinning suddenly?
 
My hair has always been very, very thick and curly. I'm a 3b, usually. My hair has been thinning over the last few months, and I kept thinking I was just imagining it. I would tell my mom I thought it was thinning and she would say no, look at it, it is crazy thick! But in reality, it was just the curl covering the thinning. Until now I though I was just being paranoid, but I can tell my hair as lost about 1/2, maybe 2/3 of what I did have before. I'm really freaking out, I'm only 15 so I didn't know that I could lose my hair, and I don't know what to do. It's also seeming to not have as much curl, but I think it might just seem flatter because it's so thin now. Please, someone tell me what to do, I'm so lost. I haven't really been stressed at all this year, I was pretty stressed during testing and stuff but it was always just like really intense stress for about a week or less and then I would be completely relaxed. I haven;t been stressed for about 3 months now so I don't know whats happening. I am going to get my hair cut soon I think, and cut it a little shorter but I want to keep it kind of long. I also think I might ask my mom for vitamins that help with hair and stuff. Should I go to the doctor? I would feel really stupid coming in for that, and wouldn't they just tell me to take vitamins? Can you guys tell me what to do, I'm really lost and scared.....

Okay first off do NOT feel embarrassed or silly about going to the doctor for anything. GO. They will probably be able to give yo more insight than anyone here can. I've read that our hair skin and nails are a reflection of what's going on inside us so yes I would suggest you going to the doctor. Uhh..no stressed so the only thing that immediately comes to mind is perhaps medication. Also do you work out? I read the working out causes an increase of testostrone in women which causes us to have more of something call DHT which leads to thinning hair but I'm not sure how true that is. I always suggest vitamins but you're 15 so talk to your doctor about it. Perhaps they can also recommend someting topical as well.

Thanks :) I'll go to the doctor.... I don't really work out so it can't be that. I have no idea whats going on with my hair so i'll have to go to the doctor..

And not to negate the whole doctor thing, 'cause that muy importante as well, but, Black Castor Oil works wonders for thinning hair.
If you do go see your doctor and it's not something big, ask if you could take that route. Typically, at 15, they really root for more natural things instead of you taking medication, so, I'd ask about that.

(But, like, don't do it instead of going to see your doctor. 'Cause, like she said, there could be something wrong that's bigger than what some oil can fix.)

You're very young. You need to see a doctor. They'll take tests to see whats up. If it isn't medical try to think back to an change in environment,, treatments, products, styling or anything. Fo you have a new stylist. Have you checked your scalp front and back.

Hi, you may have already found an answer for this but I just thought that if you hadn't then this may help.
I'm 15, 16 in January, and I've always had thick hair but it has gone very thin.
I have PCOS which is what is causing it. I have a high level of testosterone and blah blah blah~ Anyway I get a lot of acne and a lot of hair on my body (like legs, arms, stomach) and it's very dark. My periods were also very irregular when I did have them.
I suggest going to the doctor so that they can help, it might be something it might not be but they are there to help but you need to think of other things to go with it, the main things for me were my periods and of course the hair, but since I'm a teen I was already on spot medication.

My sister also had hair thinning that started in high school and she has PCOS.

eat healthier and try products that has an Aloe Vera extract on its label. Aloe Vera has been known to treat various scalp and hair problem since it has been discovered by our ancestors.

If you've really lost that much, you need to see a quality doctor. Not a lot of things truly help hair loss. I lost over 1/2 my hair from lupus and have regrown with it nutrition and Rogaine. Concentrate on good nutrition, reducing stress levels, quality sleep and taking care of yourself. Hopefully it's nothing but you need to make sure. Take care and good luck

You need to see a doctor. Aside from PCOS, it could be directly related to under or over-active thyroid or other ailment that includes an imbalance of hormones. Or it could be something more serious (but hopefully not). Go.

If you are not satisfied with your hair and thinking for a doctor then you must go and consult with him/her and take advise. Vitamins, Proteins are very important in the growth of hair. So eat healthy food full of vitamins and proteins also.

I'm going to hope on this band wagon as well. It is IDEAL for you to see a doctor.

There are a number of things that can cause hair loss.

1) Genetics (Yes women suffer from genetic hair loss)
2) An underlining medical ailment (such as PCOS)
3) Stress
4) Sudden weight gain or loss
5) Hormonal changes (You're at a prime age for that deary)
6) Surgeries (Sudden shocks to the body can result in hair loss)
7) Vitamin deficiencies.

There are many more reasons this could be happening.

Something that will help your doctor out is keeping a journal of sorts about how much hair loss you've had. A specific area you're experiencing it coming from, Things you have tried, length of time.... etc. Be Detailed. This will help you when you speak to your doctor so they can help you better.

Just remember this is your body and your hair, you know it the best and understand it's normalcy. Don't let people discourage you.

I would personally speak to your mom for a visit to the OBGYN. Because this potentially is a hormonal, vitamin, or medical issue (again like PCOS) the GYN would be the best type of doctor to begin with for this circumstance.
