Default Need help! My hair is disgusting and I'm depressed :(

I'm 3A to 3B. My hair will not grow, its thinned out to the point to where it looks awful. It falls out, lays flat...I feel so ugly and am so depressed about this. When I was younger my hair would grow down to the middle of my back and it would look healthy. I'm only 30 years old what the heck is going on!? Its progressively gotten thinner over the past 2 years I'd say. I have tried many things and nothing is working for me.

PLEASE someone help me. I feel so unattractive at this point. I'm so jealous of those with nice hair. I just want to cry over it

CrazycatLady, I'm sympathetic to how you are feeling about your hair. I can tell it is really affecting you.

Step 1 - I would check yourself out physically. The whole 9 yards - tests for iron, thyroid function, estrogen levels etc.

Step 2 - How is your diet? Read up on a healthy diet including adequate protein, fats, vites. & minerals and then do your best to follow it.

Step 3 - try the entire CG method starting with a clarifying shampoo.

Step 4 - Get a haircut to cut off the limp, thin ends.

Step 5 - Use lightweight, volumizing products like Deva Volumizing foam.

I'm sure you can improve the situation if you can identify what is causing this drastic change in your hair. Please post back - I'll watch for your posts and I'm sure others are also interested.

Are you at least sticking to the basics:
-Get lots of rest
-Drink lots of water
-Take multivitamins

If you are doing each of these then try some light exercises like walking 2-4 times a week. Also, try increasing your protein intake.

Otherwise, keep your scalp and hair moisturized daily. It takes work and lots of it.

This sounds more like a health issue than a hair issue. I would see a MD. Since it used to be healthy and long and now it's not thats strange.

+1

This was my first thought too. This could be a hormonal issue (maybe PCOS?) or a thyroid issue, among other things. Please see a doctor!

Absolutely go to the doctor. There are many vitamin deficiencies and other treatable conditions that have hair loss as a symptom. It's not a vanity thing to talk to a doctor about it, it's a major sign that you need to be fully checked over and have a blood panel. My pernicious anemia caused me to lose a lot before we caught it, but with treatment my hair is thicker than it ever was before.

I second going to see a doctor. From own personal experience, my hair a few years ago was falling out in clumps. Found out I was severely anemic. Increased my iron intake, am taking vitamins, I consume way more protein and my hair has grown tremendously. Good luck and keep us updated with your progress and things..

I would get a blood check and have all your hormone levels checked. I would also take multi vitamins and hair vitamins and make sure you are not dying, straightening or putting any other hard chemicals in your hair. Try a hot oil treatment and use Mega Tek.

Remember, curlys do not use a brush. So when you washing your hair, remember since you do not brush it it will shed more than usually.

Also massage your scalp as often as you can & give your hair a gentle tug. These will increase blood flow to your head thus encouraging hair growth. Make sure you drink plenty of water & keep your hair moisturized & trimmed. In addition to seeing your dr first. You can also massage your scalp upside down thus increasing the blood flow to your scalp.

There are a number of reasons behind hairloss (in my case it is stress related/hormonal)... But, the first thing to do is see a specialist and have a full blood work done to determine if it is anything medical and if it is treatable.

In the event that it continues, I would suggest scarves or a wig as an option until you can get things under control. I know they have helped a lot when I have had these issues. And will help you regain a sense of normalcy.

If you still find that you are feeling really depressed, it might help to talk with a therapist about your hairloss and any other health issues. You'll feel better and that's what's most important.

Good luck and try to hang in there.

Thumbs up Castor oil & almond oil work MIRACLES

Hey, Im sorry to hear you're having such trouble with your hair!

You need to try castor oil and almond oil. The thought of putting oil in your hair might not appeal to you, but please trust me, this works miracles.
Go to a health store and buy natural "Sweet almond oil" and "castor oil". Get in the shower and rub the two through all of your hair. Let it soak in for a while (during the length of your shower or even get out and put it in a shower cap for a while then rinse out later). Then give it a good rinse out with water. You don't need to shampoo but can if you'd rather.

Sweet almond oil is packed with vitamin E which is what makes your hair grow , and grow thick.
The combination of the two is miraculous. Give it a go, you'll have super healthy hair.
(p.s. google the two if you want more info)
good luck

(though id heed the advice of the other posts here and, as well as doing this, make sure its not a health problem. )
