Breakage and Thinning. Help!

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I am posting this as sort of a last ditch effort to save my hair before I chop it all off out of frustration. Here's the problem:

My hair is 3c, very dry frizzy, and unmanageable. I thought it was getting better, about a year ago, when I moved away from a state with hard water, but now I am seeing breakage like never before. While the top half of my hair is dense and frizzy, with absolutely no curl definition, the bottom is defined and thin and scraggly. You can see right through the bottom half of my hair.

Why is the bottom so thin and how do I get the top defined? As f now, I have no real regimen. I basically shampoo once a week, condition almost every day, and untangle 2-3 times a week with m hands or a wide-toothed comb. I have no preference of hair products, but have continually experimented with new ones to no avail.

I have attached a photo to illustrate the problem. The light shining behind me emphasizes the issue quite well I think.

Any help you can offer would be much appreciated. I'm pretty much ready to chop the whole darn thing off and start from scratch

Thanks!

I know the feeling! Watching YouTube video tutorials has helped me lots. Check them out!

Some of my staple oils that has been very helpful:

Pure of white shea butter
Organic coconut oil
Jamaican black castor oil
Avocado oil
Vatika
Jojoba oil

*Lilly of the Valley Aloe Vera Juice
*Acv rinse for final rinse 50/50 water and vinegar

Tiny bit of conditioner (your choice)

I use them as a pre co washing. Set myself under the Heutiful steamer 20 mins. If you don't have one, put a plastic bag with a hot towel or better yet do this OVER night. Refresh a little my hair, rinse, apply my favorite conditioner ( I keep using the old ones with a twist a very little amount of evoo) and in the final rinse I use acv from a spray bottle, so the water can be as cool as possible).
Finally,I seal my hair with pure aloe vera that I spray from a bottle so it will be cool, (not cold due to the cold weather) Jojoba oil,a little more shea butter, and JBCO specially in the tips is a must.

I can assure that at least your hair will look and feel better. Ahhhh, don't forget to wear some protective styles for some days. If you want curl definition try twist, Bantu knots, curl formers, ect if you want them dry. If wet, prep your hair with a good hair gel like Ecco, but make sure to add a little bit more of shea butter to your hair.

Ohhhh I forgot to tell you that the apple cider vinegar smell goes away when the hair is completely dry. However, I use 65% water and about 35% acv.
Hope I helped!
