Could you see a trichologist? They may be able to shed some light on the problem.

You probably need protein but don't use an egg use coconut milk and honey. This should work even if you have protein sensitive hair.

Thanks for the replies!
I did make an appointment MONTHS age lol. Very long waiting list. But its tomorrow morning at 8:40. I cant wait.
I do protein treatments at least once a month (aphogee 2 step protein treatment) and I add protein to my conditioner (an additive from sallys). My hair is protein starved. Its amazing. Even the aphogee does not last long. for a few days after my curls seem springy and happy but back to business as usual before I know it.
Im going to try the coconut and honey starting about 4 days after aphogee. Thats seems to be when it really starts to wear off.

When was the last time you used heat on your hair? I'm inclined to say this could be down to serious heat damage, but from your picture I think it may actually be a medical issue. I'd definitely say to consult your doctor and keep us updated! In the meantime protein treatments and heavy-duty deep conditioning are a must. You might also try doing pre-shampoo treatments with coconut oil, which is one of the few penetrating oils and so helps to strengthen hair by 'patching' the cortex and stopping further damage.

No heat ever. I have to use hair dryer for the protein treatment but I dry it on cool and only for the treatment otherwise my hair air dries

Dr thinks that im not processing amino acids and wants me to see a specialist. That appointment is next month. For now he gave me an rx steroid cream to strengthen my hair.

Interesting about the amino acids. I saw a trichologist years ago about psoriasis I have on my scalp (he diagnosed it, Dr was clueless) and the treatment he recommended was L-Tyrosine (an amino acid). He gave me a print out, which I still have, and there is info on there about it being used in the treatment of alopecia as well as psoriasis. I found it effective for my psoriasis at the time and have been using it again recently with success (lots of years in between where it did nothing). I didn't have hair loss at the time and can't say I've noticed any growth this time around, nor have you mentioned hair loss, just excessive breakage, but I found it interesting that he/she mentioned amino acids to you. Keep us posted if you can.

I was just having a conversation with my stylist about hair issues yesterday. She says if your hair is very dry and breaks all of a sudden, you really need to have your thyroid checked.

I second that you should get your thyroid checked.
