Biotin
Something I just thought of today for some odd reason. For awhile I've been taking biotin supplements to try to speed up the growth of my hair (300 - 600 mcg. per day). Now I'm wondering if maybe this has had something to do with my hair loss?? I'm just thinking - maybe it is growing quicker, but it's forcing old growth to fall out for new growth to come in... Does this make any sense? Lol. It's just a theory. I'm racking my brains trying to figure out what is causing this (after much bloodwork and dr. appts.) Does anyone else take biotin, and have you noticed any changes during the time you've been taking it?

I was taking 2000mg a day and only noticed my fingernails grew too fast but my hair did not get thicker or grow or fall out more. I think you are thinking too much! I have read this theory though when using topical products.

Lol, oh I definitely am thinking too much! It's on my mind ALL the time. Thanks for the input, though!

I think you're onto something. I take 15 000 mcg of biotin every day with my B supplements and for a few weeks I noticed a lot of shedding but that has slowed dramatically. I also think that using Mega-tek is helping with faster re-growth and hair strength.
I think a multi-pronged approach with different things would be more effective than 1 thing at a time.

I also take biotin daily along with a prenatal vitamin because i straightened my hair for so long it made my hair fall out ALOT...so much i knew that straightening was not the only factor and im still not sure if vitamin deficiency was the cause but i will say that i have seen hair growth on the nape of my neck and hairline where most was falling out! Anyways i think you may be right about the old hairs and new growth!!

I've been taking 1000 mcg for several years and while it strengthened my nails, it didn't seem to have any effect on my hair. I've just recently increased it to 2000 mcg. Hopefully, it will have a positive effect on my hair.

Yeah I have been taking Biotin since 2008. When I stoped taking them I began to lose a lot of hair. Now that I'm finally taking them again, my hair is starting to grow back. Biotin just works for me, along with the Fish Oil vitamins.

Yes it does. I took biotin (2000 mcg) and MSM (1000 mcg) for a long time but decided to try Biosil instead. Well the Biosil made my nails grow insanely fast but my hair got thinner and I started getting acne I went back on the biotin and MSM and reduced the Biosil (silica drops) to 2mg per day and my skin is back to normal and I have not noticed any unusual shedding. I was on the Biosil for 5 months.

I've been using GNC's be Beautiful Beauty Enhancing Pak for a little over a week. Within days I've noticed positive changes. Its expensive 30day supply $40. But it works.

Oh wow so it does. How often did you see your hair growing? What is Biosil? Is that a liquid or a pill? Acne and thinner hair, word. Idk if I want to use that, with those side effects. Are you still taking biotin or biosil? How long would you say your hair has grown since using the two?

I am still taking biotin and only 2 drops of Biosil instead of the 6-10 drops recommended. My hair is growing nicely & thickening back up without the extra shedding. Biosil is a liquid silica supplement for hair, skin, nails & bones...it is very powerful and since I take other supplements, I think I was getting too much of the silica. I don't know how much it has grown since I started taking them. I've never had any problem growing long hair...I take supplements to prevent my hair from thinning because my hair became thinner after a hysterectomy, 14 yrs ago. I usually cut my hair a couple of times per year and it is mid-back length.

Nice. Do you have a link or a site for the Biosil and Biotin your taking? I'd really like to grow the thickness of my curls back. What is hysterectomy?

Minta, I get Biosil from the Vitamin Shoppe and I also take the Vitamin Shoppe Brand biotin capsules. They also have a website at vitaminshoppe.com......a hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus

My hair is thinning on the sides and my dermatologist just told me to take 2.5 mg twice a day of Biotin--as well as Rogaine, so I'm guessing Biotin must work, at least for us balding gals

I take 1000mcg twice a day. 1000mcg is the same as 1mg.

Sweet ok. I just bought some today at a vitamin shop. Hopefully it works. I saw on the youtube videos, people say it takes about 3 months for biotin to actually work. Is that true?
