Unhappy Transitioning for a almost year, but not getting curly hair?

Hey guys, this is my first post. I love this site but I mostly signed up to ask this question.

I've naturally had 3b hair my whole life, but in July of 2009 I got it texturized. So my hair turned into big wavy curls. I went to get the roots done in January of 2010, but the stylist put the texturizer all over my hair and pulled it straight the whole time it was on. My hair was left stick straight. That was my last one. Haven't done anything chemical to my hair since, except dye the under layers red without bleaching first (dark brown naturally). Even that washed out since.

Over time, my hair has gotten curlier, but it's still limp waves. I'm hoping to grow out my natural 3b curls again, but my roots aren't looking curly at all. Maybe it's the weight of my hair pulling on them? My hair is mid back length right now.

I'm so lost and worried because I miss my natural curls, and so does my bf of three years. He told me recently that's what caught his attention about me in the first place.

Can anyone please tell me what's going on? Is it just the weight making my roots look straight or is it possible that my hair follicles somehow got damaged and won't grow curly hair anymore?

I'm kinda panicking. =(

Its the weight of the chemically altered hair making your hair look that way, if you want, you could always BC up to the chemical treated point so that you'll be working with mostly curly hair again.

Thank you guys so much for responding.

But the idea of a BC terrifies me! I spent most of my childhood with a TWA, and got teased for it horribly. Don't wanna do that again.

You could always trim smaller amounts like an inch or less every few months until all the chemically altered hair is gone. It may take like a year to get there, but it'll happen eventually.

I suppose that's what I'm gonna do. The thought of it taking that long kills me. I want my curly wild hair back!

You could cut a small piece of hair in the middle and see. I thought the same thing my hair in the front is very loose and it shocked me lol.

hi. here is my experience. i had 2 back to back relaxers 3 or 4 years ago. i wasnt liking having sort of straight hair so i decided to go back to curly. i wore my hair in pony tails, every month getting an inch or 2 cut out.
well, up till july of this year i still had no curl. and i know i had cut out all of the relaxer and then some,my hair was, by the time ,i was done around chin- alittle longer length.
july of this year i decide to cut a short pixish hair style cause it was straight and i didnt know what else to do. i noticed after a month or two it wasnt laying right anymore.
i kept getting trims to keep the style. although it still was behaving weird. a month or so ago i didnt dry my hair right away. i have a whole head of curls! curlier than ever.wth? so my point is this. mabie it did mess with the follicle or something but it will gradually go back to normal i think. it just may take some time. im now im stuck with a hot mess cause the hairstyle i have isnt working so good with curly hair. im using headbands,,,,scarves... anything to help me get past this short ugly stage.
