Default 1 Year Since My Last Perm!

So today officially marks my 1yr point of being perm free! Yay! I have to say that in the beginning I had no clue what I was doing. As a matter of fact I had no clue what transitioning or the big chop was...all I knew was I didn't want to perm anymore so I started researching new ways to style my hair.

There have been emotional ups and downs, failures & success w/products, but in the end I knew this is what I wanted for myself so I didn't give up and I couldn't be happier w/my decision to tough it out!

I write this all to say to those of you who are in the beginning, been at it a while or maybe even considering to perm again to not give up! If this is something you really want for yourself, then you will not regret your decision in the end. Now, I am nooo where near done transitioning...I am hoping to maybe cut at the 2yr mark rt. before my 30th bday or maybe going 2more yrs max. However I couldn't be proudier to say that I am in love w/what God blessed me with naturally & can't wait to 'fully be a natural girl'!

Experienced ladies: How did you feel when you hit that 1yr mark...were you satisfied or still struggling w/your decision?

CONGRATS ON YOUR ONE YEAR MARK! I'm almost four months post relaxer right now. What the hardest part about transitioning for a year?

Thanks so much & congrats on your decision as well (I'm not anti-perm but I'm loving our natural God-given beauty & the diversity of it all).

I would have to say the hardest part has been fighting the urge to chop it all off. Now I have had veryyy short hair before but that was because I left a weave in too long & my hair locked up! Believe me when I say it was a hot a*s mess! LOL. However I NEVER wore my hair out at that length. My hair dresser just cornrowed it up & made a modified quick weave (before the quick weaves you can buy in the store came out) & I rocked that for a yr.

I get sooo excited about my natural hair that I just want it to be all natural RIGHT NOW! LOL. However I know if I chop anytime soon I will not be happy w/the length (trust me...I take very good care of my hair & am retaining my length however a yrs worth of growth really is not that much...especially when you are combating shrinkage). So instead I try to maintain focus on the HEALTH of my hair. I have no control over how fast it will grow but I definitely can make sure that every centimeter I do get is as healthy as it can be!

Trust me...when I shifted my focus from gaining length to the health of my hair this yr flew by & my hair seemed to have grown over night!

Default Bumping...

So ladies/gentlemen...I know I can't be the ONLY person on here who has gone perm free for a yr & plans to continue transitioning for even longer.

How long did you all go w/out chopping & how did you handle things the further you progressed.

I would luv to have a longggggg term transitioning support thread but I really don't know anyone on here who is currently or is planning to transition for at least a yr or more...

I'm only 10 months in, but long term is the goal. Lol even though I just want to chop it off now.

Yay for one year!

I am almost 1 year post relaxer, I'm just cutting off my ends as I go. I probably won't be chopping anytime soon, and by soon I mean 2013 I'm just trying to baby my hair as much as possible.

Hello ladies
I'm also planning on a long term transition. I'm 1 year and 3 months today. I'm getting a lil antsy and want to chop it off. Which will actually start a complete family feud. So I'm hangin in there.

Thanks to all you ladies who responded. My computers been acting crazy so thats why I haven't responded sooner.

Anyway, I too have been getting the urge to chop. However I just keep asking myself if I really want to deal w/not being able to put my hair into a bun & when I really think about it I always back down. However if I am really wanting to chop I go ahead and dust my ends a little and the urge is satisfied for the time being.

Are any of you ladies interested in starting a long term transitioners thread? We could post our questions, struggles, progress, pics, etc as we progress thru our long journeys.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

That sounds good! The only thing that stops me from cutting it off is that the bun is so damn convenient....

Yes a super long term transition thread would be great lol

Congrats on your one-year transition. I wish I could fast forward a year and cut my relaxed ends off already! :P

Hello ladies! I've been super busy so I haven't really been on in like a wk & a half. Anyway since it seems like there are quite a few of us who are up for/doing a veryyyy long transition, then I will start a new thread for us to do so. See you ladies in the new thread!
