Yess I am, I deep condition once a week. My hair gets oilu quick though /: My relaxed ends look really dry when I let it air dry

Ohh okayy, I'll try something along those lines
@ Jaylens Ma...
Totally agreeing with you, that's why I mentioned I'm nervous about that particular challenge...not sure how my hair will respond to a no cut method :-/ I'm definitely more into healthy hair than lengthy hair(this was my sole purpose of going au natu-ral). I have vowed to listen to my hair so if at any time I notice negative changes during my journey...I will absolutely obey my hair's needs. Thanks so much for sharing your woes and improvements. I'll keep you guys posted on how I do~

It came as a HUGE surprise to me bc I hadn't planned on chopping until summer at the earliest or another yr and a half at the latest.

However I've been getting rid of a lot of unnecessary things I no longer need in my life the past few weeks and am about to make another MAJOR personal change this week and when I was looking at those straight ends compared to my beautiful curls I just said FU$K IT and starting cutting! LOL. So I am now COMPLETELY NATURAL! I figured no better time w/the new year getting ready to come in as well. I will still be checking in though bc I am still focused on having the healthiest hair possible and growing my hair out as long as I possibly can. I will also update my photos and post some pics when I take new ones.( I cut off the relaxed ends section by section and curl by curl to make sure I was as accurate as possible so it took hella longggg to BC!) So any advice or tips you need feel free to ask!

Good luck to you all!

I'm glad it was a spur of the moment thing tho bc if I put too much thought into it I probably wouldn't have cut it. I don't regret it though bc now I can truly see what my hair texture really looks like.

I thought I had a pretty good idea after transitioning for this long but you never know how your hairs gonna curl up or not curl for that matter until those relaxed ends are gone. My entire front section of my head is looser then I imagined it was and the rest of my hair is a mixture of 3 different textures so it got a little confusing when cutting but it worked out and I ADORE MY CURLS!

So I have recently found, or rediscovered, a new product for my twistouts that gives me great definition, a little shine, and bouncy hair....ORS Olive Oil Smooth-n-Hold Pudding!! I had used the product a very long time ago to smooth down the edges of my hair when wearing ponytails and buns. I came across this product in the back of my "hair drawer" after standing in front of the mirror and trying to figure out how to style my hair to get me through to my next wash day. I decided to do a twistout but I did not want to use a gel because I usually only like gels for my wash and gos. I started by spraying my hair with water and detangling in sections. Then applied shea butter to moisturize and then spritzed water before each twist and twisted using the pudding and my hair came out great the next day! I will use this product for my twistouts a few more times to determine if it is a keeper but for now, I am pretty satisfied with the results
Current Products:
Morrocan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner
Suave Naturals Almond and Shea Shampoo and Conditioner + EVOO
Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie

Yay, congratulations I have been following this thread for a while now, it has been so helpful to me during my transition!

Please post pics, because we are around the same time of transitioning and I am dying to see how my curls will pop! Instead of a big chop, I've done 4 mini chops and only have about 2 inches of relaxed ends to go...so we will see how long I end up holding on to me ends.
Oh I want to big chop, but I feel I need length, It's so confusing. I actually took a loc of hair and cut off the relaxed ends (on just that lock) just to see what I'm working with. Now I'm convinced I'm definately 4a, and a coarse 4a. It's gorgeous and I want it all over, but the little lock is only half the length I'm comfortable with. After 9 months. Only 9 1/2 more to go.

Thanks! Today is actually my wash day and I am sitting under the dryer as I type. Lol. I had actually planned on taking some pics today but may not get to them until next week since I only take my hair down once a week to do my entire reggie. I didn't plan on it being another longgggg wash day but it has turned into one. I did an overnight DT, rinsed, washed, detangled, then cleaned up any extra spare relaxed ends I had left over from last weekend (so I did an all over dusting to take care of that), then I put a jet black rinse in my hair which is why I am now sitting under the dryer and considering that it is now almost 11:30pm and I still have to rinse after a half hr and then style my hair idk ab taking pics tonight. However if I don't get to them this week I will take some next weekend.

When I BC'd I only had 3 inches of relaxed ends left bc I did a major chop bk in January so I agree you may be closer to chopping than you realize. Especially when you really consider how much natural hair you have compared to the relaxed ends and then you realize that the ENTIRE POINT of doing this was to go natural anyway so who cares ab a few inches of straight hair? At least that's my opinion.

In the end the entire point of taking this journey was to end up being natural so don't stress over the relaxed ends. HOWEVER take your time in deciding when to chop. I was not ready to immediately BC and that is why I transitioned for almost a yr and a half. I planned on going longer bc I wanted more length (I still do) however when you are ready to cut you will know it and that is when you should do it not before. For now enjoy the journey and you will know when your ready.

Did my hair today and took some pics as promised. The first 2 are of my hair when I was starting to take it down from my week long protective style before doing anything to it.

The next two pics are of my hair after I did my overnight DT w/coconut oil and before I washed.

The last pic is of my hair wet w/no product at all after I had just co-washed and was about to condition and detangle.

Jaylen: hair looks beautiful.
I just realized that 2 weeks ago marked one year transitioning. It's so exciting. Except for the days I wash in which I get the extreme urge to cut, I'm still thinking about just transitioning for God knows how long. I just plan to trim whenever needed and that's it. So it'll probably be a couple of more years for me.

We all do it in our own time but I'm telling you there's NOTHING like washing your hair and being able to fully see a head full of beautiful natural curls.

I have been transitioning since May, and I'm lost! To make it worse, my family is not supportive of my decision to go natural. It often comes to the point of them discouraging me. I am the only girl, and former tom boy, so I'm not familiar with my hair and how to read it. With relaxers, I always stayed in the shop and never really had to do my hair. I am also in grad school, and I find myself not having time to do the protective styles that my hair needs. I have very thick hair, which I am assuming is 4a. So, I liked the idea of being able to get up, unwrap my hair and go, when it was relaxed. Now I am considering having it straightened permanently. But, from my understanding, that would ruin my curl pattern (if I have one) and I couldn't go back to other natural styles. Although, it's been seven months, I'm not ready for the BC. At my current rate of growth, I thought April would be good to clip the last relaxed ends off, but I am now anxious and frustrated with my hair. Idk what to do!!

I also have questions about products. Because I am in school, I won't have money to buy all the natural hair products that I have heard about on the board. I now use Cantu Shea Butter Leave in, pure coconut oil, and pure shea butter. With the shea butter, how to I use that? Is there a way to soften it? What I really need a natural transitioning mentor. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!
