I'm 15 months in and I love it. At times I get so excited when I see my curls that I want to do my BC but at the same time I am so scared of the shrinkage. I want to go to a salon to get my hair cut but its hard finding one that wont cost me an arm and a leg. I think I am just going to get my hair trimmed every few months until the permed ends are gone. Besides I love my big messy bun

I make 15 months tomorrow and I feel the same way. I wanted to wait til 20 months but may just stretch it til I'm 18 months. Because of a big cutting spree I did last year the back of my hair is 100% natural and so beautiful compared to the rest with its thready straight ends.

I'm currently 17 months into my transition, trying to last 2 yrs. At 10 months into the transition, I cut my hair to shoulder length so I don't have much permed ends length.

I have a stupid question. How long does it take to transition? And how do you know that all of your rebonded hair has been cut off? It's just that a year ago my not curly hair was rebonded (Shameful, I know) because my mom got sick of my hair being not completely straight but not curly (just a VERY slight bend) either. Just a poofy mess. So I was wondering how'd I know if it's my natural hair and that all the rebonded strands are cut off.

Hey everyone! I reach my 20 month transition date at the end of this month I'm so tempted to just cut it off, but honestly, for almost two years of growth, it doesn't seem that long at all. It barely even reaches my shoulder.

After mulling it over for a while, I don't believe I want to do a "big chop". I'm just not going to relax my hair anymore, cut a few inches of scraggly ends off every now and then and just see what happens. *Subscribing*

9 Months post. I planned to go a year and half. I'm tempting to cut on every wash day.

I'm still hanging in at 21 months. For the last 3 months I've been cutting an inch every month....been getting that itch to chop lately but don't know If I'm willing to part with my long hair yet

I'm going to kill it.
I swear I am.
Tomorrow, you will all see on the news:
"Homicidal Black Woman Goes On Violent Tirade and Kills It! All of It!"
And, by "it", I do mean my hair.
I just... *sigh* Forget bad hair days, it's been a bad hair month.
I'm hoping on trying a bantu-knot-out and seeing how well that goes, but, my natural hair won't blend no matter what I do, and, there is no way I'm cutting my relaxed ends off.
(Oh... My bad. I'm 'Nae, planning on transitioning *at least* 25 months and am 5, almost 6, months in.)

Im currently 19 months into my transition. The back of my hair is mostly all natural now. The front has a lil bit of permed edges left.

Hey ladies I'm 18 months going on 19. However most of my nape area is natural. My hair now hangs between collarbone and armpit lengths. Forever learning about my hair and still enjoying every bit.

It depends on your growth rate. Usually it's about .5 inches per month (of curly growth), which means, depending on how long you want it, you have to do the math and wait.
My mother was actually relatively supportive of my hair (though I never wore it down, like ever), so I'm sorry to hear that. I transitioned for around 3 years, and never truly did a BC. My hair is currently SL curly dry (BSL wet).
I also understand what you mean by differentiating your hair. I still have the random wavy/3a strands on my hair that I thought were relaxed, but I suppose they're natural. Usually, you can tell because the relaxed part usually manifests as stringy strands coming out from curls (though, in your case, your curls probably aren't defined yet). The curl pattern should be different too, but I thought that was fairly obvious. Look at your roots for the curl pattern.

I just finished my 21st month!! And I'm not sure when I'll stop... I like multiples of five so maybe I'll BC at month 25 or 30.

I just finished my 22nd month
November will be my 23rd month. I think I decided on my BC date: April 22, 2013. That's my birthday and it's also my 28th transition month. It's not a multiple of 5, but it does have the number 8 in it and 8 is my favorite number. I have box braids in my hair now, but, lately, whenever I take my hair down, I REALLY feel like chopping it all off. I even fully cut off a few portions of my hair just so I can see its texture.
I see a few 3c's, but its mainly as I predicted: a mixture of 4A and 4B. It's still really short though. When stretched out, the front hair only reaches to eye length : /

I'm all subscribed to this thread now!
I'm a little over 18 weeks into my transition now. I'm not sure how long I want to transition--I just know that I want to be at least shoulder length (but probably a bit longer) so I'm thinking that will be at least 2 years. 2.5 probably. And I figure, if I can make it to 2.5 years, I can make it to 3 if it seems like I should. And, I'm excited
This board is inspiring!
Congratulations on your 22nd month, Sakiohma! Was that section in the front short to begin with? Maybe it's more growth than you realize?

Hi, I just joined the site and have read a lot of interesting things. My last relaxer was in August. The length of my hair was past my shoulders but I cut it to my chin since I started transitioning. I have very thick hair. I notice when my hair is wet that my new growth has small coils that are tightly curled. I can not wait to see what my hair type is... definitely a 4. However, not sure if it's an a,b or c? I will more likely be a long transitioner. I hope to survive this journey b/c the relaxer does not agree with my scalp.

You can definitely survive this journey--thrive in it in fact! That's my belief, anyway--it's our hair. It grows out of our heads. It's meant for us, made for us--we just have to learn how to take care of it in the proper way, and not try to force it to do things that it's not supposed to do.
I hope you find lots of support here, and learn what your hair likes
