I'm now just a few short days away from 30 weeks, which is (technically, not by month names) 7.5 months! Woot woot! My first milestone is 40 weeks (like a pregnancy :P) and I'm making my way there, yay!
It's been pretty easy thus far, though I admittedly have been a bit lazy as of late, leaving my hair in simple buns and wearing hats pretty often. Washing it tomorrow, so I'll do some sort of cute twist style that should last me a week or so.

I am 3 wks short of 36 months since my last relaxer. I have been looking and looking for a stylist to cut off the tiny bit of straight ends remaining since I clipped and clipped along the way indiscriminately. Now I have a head of uneven hair(but I hide it well-LOL)

10 months since my last relaxer, I see a year around the bend! Patiently waiting for...I don't know what! I think I would like to see all the natural hair reach at least my ears maybe. I get the itch to cut when I wash my hair (helloooo curly curls!) so I'm trying to stretch washing. I've cut the perm out of 4 small sections around my head to practice on and to keep me entertained.
36 months?! Yowza...congratulations soldier! My limit is early Dec 2013, puts me at a maximum of 20 months, if I wait that long.

Hey there lady...hang in there...10mths is a long time and I'm sure you're doing fine. I've been transitioning for 7 mths now and I am truly enjoying the journey (knock on wood).
May I recommend that you detangle your hair using some oil like coconut, avocado, etc before wetting it for shampoos or co-washes. You can even mix a bit of oil with your fave conditioner and do a 'pre-poo' treatment to detangle as well. Use wide-toothed combs and be very gentle starting from ends and work your way up to your roots. As for the twist, mine tend to look scraggly too. What I do now is use a perm rod at the ends to address the stringy relaxed ends. Good luck to you and all the best!

Thxs. It flew by. Hope to encourage others. Keep a hair journal, listen to your hair, moisturize, accept YOUR hair, and maintain 3 gallons of patience.

It's soooo nice to see so many long time transitioners here. I plan on doing it for 36 months as well...It seems like it's going to be forever. Especially since I can't seem to keep my hands out of my hair! lol! I have what i believe to be 3c/4a hair, but I have a question though. Is it possible for hair to be high porosity naturally? I have taken a strand of shedded hair, and cut the relaxed end of it off to drop in my sink of water. It floats to the bottom, but it takes about a minute or two. I'm wondering if this is because I have flat ironed my hair 3 times in the passed 8 months of my transition, and have damanged it, or if I am naturally high porosity....if that's even possible. Also, i have heard that for high porosity hair, you should drench with water, moisturize, and seal. However, when after I shampoo, when i put the moisturizer on my hair, it seems to just sit on top instead of being absorbed, which is contradictory to what high porosity hair is supposed to do (I think). Any feedback is appreciated. thx.

......to clarify, it's the natural hair that I put in the sink full of water, not the relaxed end. lol....thx........

Cosmetologists say that no, hair is not naturally porous and that it becomes this way. Did you have any product in your hair when you tested? Make sure the water is just room temperature also.
Congratulations! Also I giggled a bit at the PJism behind you

Last time I replied to this thread, I was at 22 months of my transition. Now I'm at 27 months ^__^ Last time, when stretched, my hair reached my eyes. Now the front reaches my nose and the sides reach my shoulders. Still not that good of growth, but I'm getting there. April 22 is my scheduled big chop date, but I'm thinking about moving it to the 30th transition month (I love multiples of 5). Not sure yet.

OMG! Congratulations!!! I can't WAIT until I can say that! sometimes the thought comes across my mind to just relax my hair, and then I think about the possibilities with sticking it out and being completely natural. If it weren't for wigs on those "I can't do this" days, I probably would have given up by now. lol! Do you have any pics to post of your journey thus far??

I am officially 9 months into my transition today! In only 3 short days, I will reach my first goal of 40 weeks--my Hair Pregnancy will be over :P
Now, I'm pretty sure my goal is to go 2.5 years--so I have like...a few more Hair Pregnancies to go before I cut it. I'm ready though.
Transitioning has been great thus far. I've been doing the curly girl method almost since the beginning, and haven't used any heat since about July as well. I use mostly curlformers, setting my hair and then wearing it curly for 1-3 weeks. First week to 1.5 weeks is great, second week I have to wear a hat with the curled ends showing. If I make it to three weeks, I've usually started wearing it up, or french braided or something--I rarely go for 3 weeks.

You can get a set of Curl Formers from curlformers.com or from Sally's stores, however, they're expensive, running about $44-$69 dollars for a pack of 40 (you only really need about 40 to do your head of hair)
I got mine off of ebay for MUCH cheaper. I bought two sets of 18 for....maybe 20 dollars total? I'm not sure. So, I have 32, and generally use about 30 to do my entire head. They're called "Magic Leverag," from china. If you do buy them off ebay, there are a few things you should know:
- Be careful when selecting the size--sometimes the picture shows one thing, but included is another. Read the descriptions carefully--I recommend getting very long and wide ones, if you have longer hair/are growing your hair
- One curler color is clockwise, the other is counter clockwise--that is how it's supposed to be, but because I have the bootleg version, it's not so. Some orange go one way, while some go the other. Same with pink. The direction matters in terms of styling preferences, but if you mix them up anyhow, it's not really a big deal
- The ends of some of my curlers were imperfectly formed, meaning if I put the curler in in a certain way, it was more likely to snag. I figured this out, and now I don't have any snags at all
- My two sets of 18 came with one wand each--one of my wands won't stay snapped together, while the other is stuck together forever now. W/e, it still works
So, those are some disadvantages to getting the Magic Leverag. For me, a girl with limited funds, it was totally worth it for me to get them, because the curlers work brilliantly despite the few flaws, and they were very cheap. Mine are about 21 inches long when stretched completely, and I guess they'd be comparable to the "Extra long and wide" versions available on Curl Formers. Stretched, my hair reaches about the middle of my chest, and there's still plenty of room left in the curlers for more hair.
