Default I relaxed because of a job interview/new job

I was transitioning and had not has a relaxer since March/April and I recently was called for a job interview in a corporate setting. I wasn't sure how to wear my hair. At that time, transitioning was becoming very easy for me. I didn't want to look crazy wearing my regular wild braid out. To make a long story short, I regret relaxing again. I realized I like being myself and standing out. Does anyone feel their hair can be an issue in the work place? I'm planning on transitioning again and not giving a f*ck about society and conforming. I also want to add in corporate environments as long as your hair is neat it doesn't whether it's natural or relaxed. I honestly didn't know that until I had my interview and after I started the job. But if you're confident and present yourself well, your hair shouldn't be an issue. What are you guys thoughts on this?

I never ever thought about perming my hair again even if it is for a job, I just slick my hair back into a need bun and call it a day. They can't dictate to you how to wear your hair once you've gotten the job, so just as long as your hair is neat and somewhat controlled you'll be fine.

I suppose this can be considered a learning experience for you in the future.

Yea I really didn't know. Once I've seen a co-worker with a big curly fro I wanted to kick myself in the ass. The environment is top notch and it's hard to get hired there. But honey I am NEVER doing that again! I only like to wear my hair straight only for special occasions or maybe once or twice a month. I'm honestly never doing that again. My hair looks better curly than straight.

Girl I totally understand where your coming from... I live in ca and I've been in corp america for sometime now interviewing in newport beach irvine etc.... my hair was and still is always an issue for me while trying to find a job. I remember saying I'm not flat ironing my hair because its too hot so I wore it in a bun to an interview and let's just say if looks could kill! Lol so now when I go for an interview I twist my hair the night before and take them out before I go to the interview. Once you get the job........ you can rock the puff ;0)

As long as you can get your hair into a bun, you should never have an issue in a corporate setting. One of the main reasons I want a transition long enough to get me bun length hair.

Yes I understand my new job is in manhattan, in a corporate area. I was stressing myself out between my hair and how to dress. I'm the only token ethnic person in my office too. I think i can get a pass for this on the forum... But after my first day I felt more comfortable and became more myself. Tomorrow a curly braid out bun will be rocked for sure lol

BTW, congrats on your new job. I live in NY and have been having the hardest problem finding a job.

Thanks! There's a lot of places that are hiring. Primarily private institutions and the federal government is always hiring. You can check on the city/state website for listing or go to your local government officials offices for job listings. Most importantly ask around. Good luck on the job search!
